Pleased to hear it, sol.

Eh, what the hey -- congratulations to Pal on his 18th M.  (Unlikely as all get out that he would post here to clinch the deal, but you never know.)

Coming up: gOOber's Yahtzee. Grin

Update: come and gone, gOOber's Yahtzee (11111) -- whoosh! Shocked

Good point, you've been having tea all this time ...

By the way, everyone, an auspicious visit -- I believe it's his third here.  His first was early, to compliment a picture, and then he was lured down here in November 2008 (I forget the page, 40-something) to say he's all for Zookie or anyone else posting more than him (so it's all good, Zookie -- and bio and gOOber, if you're so inclined).

(Say, does anyone here have a cake emoticon lying around?)

Grin Never said you were, and the Forum is very thankful -- but nowadays, who might you be addressing?  Me, or gOOber?

Druul "gOOber's been hot lately -- does that make him a roasted peanut?" Empire

PS: on the M watch I'm watching sol and Carl, which brings to mind two old Jewish guys.  Curiously enough the fourth page of the most posts list now has four names beginning with M: the evidently retired Maximus, the currently infrequent MrEff, and the up-and-coming Magiciano and mcgarp.  Fairly appropriate, since Magiciano and/or mcgarp may hit their first M before onion_writer or even Nimrod.

Yay, gOOber's back, more pictures of boobies. Grin

Bold prediction for this week: solvegas hits his 7th M, perhaps even before Thanksgiving. Cool

This year may yet see a new 6th M, if not from CarlTL then perhaps for DJPFC.  (And if he could post more of Chloe Vevrier, that could help his post count, just saying ... )

After months of nothing, the race to the first M has been rejuvenated by Magiciano and mcgarp.  (Magiciano and McGarp -- huh, sounds like an old TV cop show.)  Magiciano should be claiming his first M pretty soon, and mcgarp not that long after -- although I still really wish Nimrod and onion_writer, both stymied at the number 996 (!), could make a few posts, if only because I wouldn't mind hearing from them.

PS: say, Carl, maybe YOU have a Chloe Vevrier lying around ...

Where did THAT rumor come from? Huh  Grin

'Minds me a little of the old Second City TV take on "Fantasy Island" -- "I know what YOUR fantasy is, boss, it's to tie women up in Corinthian leather!"

V to Bio below: well, I always assumed that "Corinthian leather" was primarily pure euphonic bullshit, but that it might at best mean "elaborately textured," much as the Corinthian column tends to be the most elaborately decorous.

I saw the movie " Puss in Boots " Saturday and toward the end of the movie one of the townspeople in admiration tells another one how Puss in Boots wears a belt made with real Corinthian leather and I was the only one in that mostly very young crowd who laughed at the joke. I then realized how old those Ricardo Montalban commercials were. Obviously some of the people that made the movie realized some Baby Boomers would see the movie and get the joke. Christ, I'm only 55. I'm not old ( as I take another prescription drug  Wink Grin ).

I know the feeling. I always wondered how Corinth ever produced that much leather.

So what was this "Corinthian leather"? To put it in context, fanciful names for interior upholstery was actually NOTHING new. Marketing consultants, it appears, made up the name. Look at any car brochures from the 50s and 60s and you'll see evidence of that. One of the most best-known was Pontiac's "Morrokide" vinyl upholstery, which of course was very, very cool. And I'm sure it continues to this day, albeit inspiring nothing like the ridicule Corinthian leather received.

But what set Corinthian leather apart was the advertising hyperbole, trying to plant in the minds of the customer that they were buying something special and exclusive. It was real leather but it was nothing special- mass produced at a factory, and not the best grade of automotive leather either. What was amazing is that Chrysler continued to use "Corinthian leather" to denote some of its optional leather interiors for many years after. And even today, companies use the term "Corinthian leather" for bible covers, among other things.

Ricardo Montalban selling a Bible bound in rich Corinthian leather ... my mind is blown.

Appropriately enough, Magiciano, he of the perpetually shirt-busting September Carrino avatar, lavisher of hot images, has just hit his first M.  Congratulations! Grin

Not truly an M announcement, except fractionally at best, but this thread does occasionally honor non-M milestones: any day now -- indeed, any minute now -- gOOber may ascend above MunchWolf to become the Forum's sixth most prolific (recorded) poster.  Although ... hey, wait a minute, gOOber used to be something like 400 posts behind me, and now he's less than 200.  But as I indicated in my obscure little BOXCARS! thread, I'll be happy to switch with him and take back sixth place as he takes fifth.  I like to imagine that gOOber figured out that he still has 10,000 images to share and wants to share them all over the next two years -- if anything like that is even remotely true, I will happily stay out of his way. Cool

C'mon, CarlTL, bring it on home, how about your 6th M for Christmas! Grin  (Addendum: and in good Carl form he just dedicated his 6000th post to wishing Shara a Merry Chirstmas.)

Also, while technically not M news, definitely a milestone.  Shara may well be the first woman in BEA history to achieve a single digit rank in total posts, hitting the #9 spot as she rose above sheber.  In the coming year we may see homevintner or MasterDragonfly or rtpoe rise beyond her and return her to #10, but for now she's riding high.  I take this as more evidence of the power of three in her life, seeing that nine is three squared. With just a few hours of BEA time to go before the new year, DJPFC has hit his 6th M.  Congratulations! Grin

Daring predictions for the new year:

gOOber will keep inundating us with babes and jokes and regain his rightful rank as fifth most prolific poster.

mcgarp will achieve his first M.

A more sentimental hope:

Nimrod, onion-writer, Chelsea74, Pixeltiger and beachboy will likewise hit their first M.

And the joke of the day:

Beshine will finally have TWO BIG ONES -- that's right, two million views of her thread. Grin

Getting out the lawnchair and the lemonade (virtually speaking) -- Magic is about to hit his 5th M.  Rarely has a man worked so hard to go so far. Cool

addendum: in fact, magic just now sailed past.  Congratulations! Grin
