I'm semi-hopeful that a couple of those cellphone pics show up on some site, and that we get wind of it. That should start the trail of breadcrumbs to whomever stole the phone to begin with. Not that any of us would be able to specifically do anything, but if you (Antoinette) were to point the police at the site where the previously private pics are showing up, they should be able to issue the necessary paperwork to get a toehold.
Wishful thinking on my part. Assuming those guys only think with their hormones/muscles, there's a good chance that they'll do something which will end up calling themselves out.

Wow, those are some chilling stories, I'm sorry to hear that those things could happen to such a wonderful person. I guess that's part of the curse of being so beautiful— you can attract the wrong sort of attention as well. Whatever you do decide, I'm glad you're still a part of this community, and willing to share with us. They've been saying "Nil Illegitimus Carborundum" since Roman times and it seems it will never lose its meaning: "Don't let the bastards get you down." Some things never change... just have to stay strong I guess.

Thank you for the support everyone! As always it is much appreciated Thanks for the pepper spray recommendations. And thanks for those links rtpoe. I definitely need some pepper spray! MDF...I am definitely planning on taking some self-defense classes. I'll be starting boxing lessons next week too. I wish I was closer to San Francisco now so I could learn from your friend. He sounds great. Thank you for those links. Wen-Do sounds like something I'd love to do, I wish it was in my area. I really liked that Model Mugging article. I checked out their site and I'm seriously considering taking that course at their L.A. location. It sounds like something that could really work for me. Oh and BTW, I'm kind of hoping some of my cell phone pix will get posted too so they can be traced back to them. Thanks so much everyone, love, love, love your posts  |

I went back to the beach this morning for my jog....only now I have my friend waking up early to go with me! Now that I have a guy coming with me I feel more comfortable just wearing a tank top, instead of my usual loose zipped up jacket, or big sweatshirt. Nowadays I just don't feel comfortable wearing anything tight or even semi-revealing unless I'm protected by a guy friend  |

It sucks that one experience has gotten into your head so much , even to the point where you feel that you have the change who you are. Self defense classes will help a lot, plus it'll keep you in shape (even thou you don't need that by the looks of things ). But yeah it sucks... Maybe I can look through the wrestling circles and find someone who can guard you, nothing like a pro wrestler to scare the shit out of someone. lol |

The boxing sounds like a good idea, too. Although the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of the Model Mugging course. Physical abilities aside, the one major roadblock which you'll discover about yourself is the unwillingness to seriously injure someone, even someone who is threatening you. If I were to give a strong recommendation for someone such as yourself, the Model Mugging (or something like it) would be my first choice. Anything more traditional would likely take months/years longer for you to get something fundamental from it, something that you could have applied in the beach scenario. If you have the opportunity to pick up short "basic self-defense" courses here and there, take them. A one-day seminar here, a 4 week, 2 classes per week course there, that sort of thing. I don't think you'll really have a clear picture of what you really want or need, until you've exposed yourself to a variety of things. And on some level, a lot of what you'll run into will eventually start to look somewhat similar. Don't depend on someone running a school to tell you which style is best, because from where they're sitting, their style is the best (otherwise why would they have spent so much time studying it?). The best style to take is the one which is right for YOU. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to martial arts. Well there is (in some circles), if you don't mind experiencing the "McDojo" effect. Again, if you don't have anything to compare to, someone who sounds confident (and maybe has accreditations and trophies) couldn't possibly be a bad choice, right? Problem is, you need something effective NOW, not effective after 3-5 years of study. Nobody's asking you to prepare for a tournament; your primary consideration should be being able to drop a guy when he starts groping you in a completely unwilling/unexpected way. In short, you need to be able to protect your greatest asset: YOU. Sorry for the rant. Honestly, I wish I could personally escort you to whatever places you go check out. There are some charlatans out there that you also need to watch out for. Your best bet might be to have a friend experienced in martial arts to go with you when you go calling/asking questions. I personally like the low-key, no-pressure instructor. The ones who hype me to death make me want to gag. I'll be polite and save my criticisms until after I leave, but still. Meh, I'm rambling. Blame the beer. |
