Guess what? A film buff recently found a 'workprint' copy of "Manos: The Hands of Fate"! That's the full movie, as edited from the actual film used in the cameras used to make the movie. Why is this a big deal, you ask? Because to make the reels for distribution, they had to make a copy of the workprint, and then make a copy of that for the theater. And almost all of the versions of the movie out there now are copies of copies of copies of copies.... So this film buff, Ben Solovey, is taking it upon himself to create a fully restored HD version from this workprint. He's got stills and a few clips on his blog where you can see exactly how clearer and sharper the movie can be. It's still a crap movie, of course. But at least its faults won't be due to lousy visuals from an nth generation copy.... |
