Wow...talk about the end of an era. Who could ever replace this man?
Mod edit: just tweaked the subject line due to Jobs' recent passing. -Palomine

I don't envy his successor, Tim Cook. CNN Money: "Apple gives Tim Cook $384 million stock grant"Uh, then again...

Why Apple reigns as the king of cool, elegant design. Just look at their home page now.

This stuck me as worth sharing.
Also, if the media torrent of Steve Jobs retrospectives and tributes seems overwhelming, you might consider having a peek at Google Reader: http://www.google.com/reader/view/ ...their always-reliable 'very best of the web' selection features a small sampling of some particularly well-done items.

His biological father was Syrian-American.
America needs immigrants. It's that simple.

Compare and contrast these tributes to the man. One strikes a note of true sincerity, while the other is blander than mayonnaise.
"The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it's been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely." — Bill Gates
"I want to express my deepest condolences at the passing of Steve Jobs, one of the founders of our industry and a true visionary. My heart goes out to his family, everyone at Apple and everyone who has been touched by his work." — Steve Ballmer

A good movie about Steve Jobs and Bill Gates is Pirates of Silicon Valley. Just watched it again. Although it was made circa 1998, so it doesn't go into Apple's amazing comeback. Just goes through how they started out and stealing all each other's gear.
