Title: Image Hosting Sites
Post by: Tsunami2k on June 27, 2004, 01:58:14 AM
Can one of the mods make this a sticky please?

Sites where you have to change the file entension to .txt will not be accepted - only proper image hosting sites that allow remote linking.

Seems like a useful list... sticky it shall be!

Might not be a bad idea to put this in the posting rules thread, too.  Giving some alternatives to attachments might calm the 'these rules suck' crowd.  Probably not, as using an external image host might be too much work, but it's worth a try.

That's not a bad suggestion, but a group decision to keep the actual rule thread itself as brief as absolutely possible would probably mean that it won't get added.

Not to mention that they'd probably still be breaking site rules...

I haven't ever used it, but from what I read in the FAQ, it looks like a very good image hosting site.

I've checked out some of these, and Strike9, MyImgs, VillagePhotos, and UploadIt do NOT accept porn.  I can't figure out Roadfly, and I suspect none of the other sites allow porn either.

Perhaps there should be thread on sites that host ADULT pictures, because I'm having a phenomenally difficult time finding one.

Again, from what I read in the FAQ, it allows practically anything. I'll try it out and report back.

Edited to add: whoops, the Terms of Service disallow porn images. Try again!

Do they define up front what they mean by 'porn', or do they move the goalposts at a whim to include toplessness, when it suits them?

Here's a site that says right up front that they accept porn!

Imageshack is the most common hosting place I've seen in most forums (which is exactly what they say it's for). However....I have seen so many people post images that aren't legal. This may be from my view of legal. I suspect that by legal they mean the copyright holder of the image to which every place I have ever been to has violated by posting event photos of **28** and such.

well, here is one, I found looking around for somehting I have YET to find and that is a place that offers uploads of swf (flash files) php files and also allows 'hotlinking' I am looking to make a signature of a swf file that has clickble 'buttons' in it, but those buttons lead to php files html type pages and such, nothing 'bad' nor viruss, on my PC comes up as photo Parade images.

Anyway I ran across this one:

http://fapomatic.com/

They say right up front they host porn, and want to host it, in thumbnail galleries and all else, seems pretty good, and I'd think so, but I cannot get in there, so needs 'some' testing abit.

I got a confermation e-mail as most places you get these days, and clicked the link and it said I was all in there, yet each time I log in, it claims log in failed, and being I used my name, and e-mail address to get this, each time I try to 'do it over' it says name and e-mail already took, (by me) but anyway, not sure if is a bug or what but so far will not allow me to even log in, says log in always fails, so some testing is wished and needed, please.

As is the advertising of it 'seems' good.... they host porn, and your own personal porn galleries, allow hotlinking for places such as this, and want you to be a part and spread the word, yet so far, I still cannot even get in, so please to test out and see, promising, but we shall have to see....

Anyway can someone PLEASE maybe PM me a site that allows 'free' hotlinking, and swf files, ABD php files as well, please? Non Porn, so you know, this is for my little cartoon fairy Winx sig, but darn at finding a place that allows both swf and php...ones I've seen allow swf but NOT php, then others have php files, but no to swf...so gahhhhh!!!!

Title: My Favorite File Hosting Sites
Post by: TheZookie007 on April 14, 2006, 01:21:35 AM
In addition to image hosting, file uploading sites are also very useful. Most of us have heard of RapidShare, but that site has for me one fatal flaw: the download limit. If the file you are trying to download is of a certain size, before you can download another one, you have to wait for an hour or something. I understand why they are doing that (they want you to move over to their paid service) but that doesn't mean I have to like it!

So, here are a couple of links to "better" services (by which I mean, you don't have to wait an hour between downloads):

More when I run across more.

Just ran across this list and thought I should share it with you. It's the most comprehensive list of such sites I have seen yet. I haven't tried most of them though, so your mileage may vary, but there's quite a few on here.

FunPonsel Blog: "List of Free Large-File Sharing Services"

Here's two more shorter lists (some overlap possible, I haven't looked too closely at them):

"RapidShare Alternatives I"
"RapidShare Alternatives II"

NB: I don't know if these sites have been discussed in those other links I gave earlier.

I may have to spin off this list and make a standalone comprehensive file-hosting services thread instead of hijacking this one

Excuse my ignorance, but when I open links posted here to filefactory.com (and some others) why do I get no video? There are plenty of upload instructions but I don't see anywhere to download something. All I see is the title of the vid.

I don't know. Can you give me an example where that has happened to you? Perhaps the video has been taken down by the original poster, or by the hosting service (either because it violated their Terms of Service or because the file hosting privileg time had expired)?

Are you saying that all the sites listed above don't work anymore? Otherwise, why do we need someone to repost a site that is already higher up in this thread?

If you are aware of sites that are not listed here, SHARE them and the list will be "current" again. Also, posting a list of sites mentioned above that no longer exist would be appreciated. That, too, would make this thread "current".

BTW, Tsunami2k cannot alter his original post due to a limit on this forum. That's why I mention making newer posts below his. This thread is as current as all contributers to the whole thread make it. Not just the first post in it.

Yes, since I am unable to make any changes to the current list that I posted 4yrs ago, you will need to just make other posts below if or when I will update the list and links if any of the sites I have posted are no longer current/working.

Don't know if anyone else has responded to this yet, but IMAGE SHACK now has a new rule - no porn to be posted.

I had been using it because it was recommended.

Wanna make sure I have this right regarding the status quo here -

when posting a picture in a BEA thread you have two options - post as an attachment or post within the text section in the thread.

And if you post in the text section (which so many seem to like to do?) AND the picture/.jpeg lives on your hard drive, you must first post it to a web hosting page?  That it?

I have used it before and it works.

Just a note-- Image Sgack kicked me out because apparently naked noons violate their TOS.

And Pixcastle closed down.    :-[

I am currently using ImageVenue.com
They have no problem with porn but there are a couple of drawbacks:
- They don't support direct linking.
- Images that were not accessed for a year will be deleted.

As always, suggestions are welcome.

I use TurboImageHost at present.  It allows porn posting, if you select it when uploading.  http://www.turboimagehost.com/
I've got some images on there that are almost 2 years old now.

I haven't ever used it, but from what I read in the FAQ, it looks like a very good image hosting site.

That would be Imageshack.us (http://imageshack.us). I use it, and it's great for transloading pics straight from the net without having to download them directly to your hard drive. The interface isn't entirely user-friendly on the pic-organizing side, but they've been tweaking it for years. I highly recommend it. :)

I have a found a new one that I consider the best-kept secret in online file storage:

http://www.filedropper.com/ (http://www.filedropper.com/)

They want to be the Google of File Storage - they keep things fast and simple.  Best of all, it accepts a maximum per-file size of FIVE GIGABYTES!

I use imagebam for image hosting:  http://www.imagebam.com/

As far as I know, it's only good for images, but it's worked out pretty well for me as of about 9 months of use.  The thumbnails it produces do occasionally break, I've had to re-upload a few images because of this, probably a few percent failure rate.  It's the only issue I've had with the site.

Make sure your virus protection is strong, because both imagebam and imagur are loaded with worms, trojans, and viruses.
