Title: The Razzies!
Post by: rtpoe on January 24, 2009, 04:03:59 PM
It's time once again for that big Hollywood event, the annual Razzie nominations for the worst films of the previous year.

"The Love Guru" leads the way with a total of seven nominations, followed closely by the appropriately named "Disaster Movie" with six.

More on the nominations  here

Al Pacino and Ben Kingsley each have two roles to be embarrassed about, and Uwe Boll is being considered for a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Paris Hilton's movie brought in $27,696 at the box office?!?  As in 27 THOUSAND?  Ouchies!

Alas, there were so many bad movies that there wasn't room to specially honor Pierce Brosnan's attempt to sing in "Mamma Mia!"

I've seen more of the Best Picture nominees than the Razzie nominees. I guess I did all right last year.

The comedian - not to be confused with his more amusing serial killer Michale Myers - Mike Myers has been on a downward spire since Austin Powers. He sounded almost suicidal in Shrek 3 - seriously, see if you can hear him sounding enthused during that entire film.

Even Austin Powers didn't really stand up to a second viewing - I went to watch it a second time with friends... and we walked out going "Huh... that... wasn't really that funny".

Of course, he'll likely stagger on for a few more embarrassments.

For the record, my Billy Connelly impression is a LOT better than the one he's doing for Shrek.

The Austin Powers movies are just sight gags held together by a thin plot.  He's also supposed to be one of the biggest divas in Hollywood.

The Wayne's World movies were funny.  Especially the first one which made a lot of top 10 movies of the year lists.  He needs to get together with Dana Carvey.

Wayne's World is definitely a fantastic comedy but I think you could feel a (slight) loss of momentum in Wayne's World 2, still very good and definitely on a par but maybe not quite as tight.

Of course, if you can stay a box office draw... le sigh.

The producers of The Hottie & The Nottie should pay back all the idiots who went to see that. I wouldn't watch it if my life depended on it, talk less of spending money to do so. Twenty seven thousand dollars probably wouldn't even pay for Paris Hilton's STD medication, much less help the film make a profit.

And I agree, Mike Myers should take a hiatus from film making for at least five years if he is going to continue coming up with such drivel as The Love Guru. Not even the prospect of seeing Jessica Alba or some south Asian hottie could make me want to subject myself to that film. The Hindus who were protesting the film in India wasted their time, in my opinion. Sir Ben Kingsley, being of Indian descent, gets a pass from me for trying to have a bit of fun with his heritage, but the rest of the crew deserve a **73**. Yeah, even you, Justin Timberlake.

I dunno, I think the producers should keep the money. People ought to pay for their stupidity.

I'm just relieved that Paris Hilton is fading into obscurity.

I'm with Notty... with some films, you can legtimately say that expectation, marketing etc. misled people into thinking that the film was going to be better than it was... Matrix sequels and Underworld come to mind as films with masterful trailers... which I rather think the films were built around.

A film with Paris Hilton as an actress? At least with House of Wax you knew she was going to die. Actually, that still wasn't really enough.

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" (aka Trannies Two) and "Land of the Lost" lead this year's movies with seven nominees each. And Sandra Bullock has the distinction of getting both an Oscar and a Razzie nomination in the same year! I've read that if she wins the Razzie, she hopes to be able to get it in person!

Nothing like k1ds to completely neuter a man...but no, I don't think that's all of it. I think he just got rich and lazy after hitting it big with Shrek and just signed up for paychecks after that. How else do you explain going from Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America to complete crap like Norbit and Meet Dave?

Guess what! It's that time again!

Sequels, Remakes, and Rip-Offs Dominate This Year’s RAZZIE® Nominations (http://razzies.com/history/31stNoms.asp)

There's a special new category this year: "Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D". The nominees are:

"Cats and Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore"
"Clash of the Titans"
"The Last Airbender"
"Nutcracker 3-D"
"Saw 3-D" (aka "Saw VII")

They've started a YouTube channel for their stuff: http://www.youtube.com/user/razziechannel

Title: The 2012 Razzies!
Post by: rtpoe on April 03, 2012, 09:08:29 PM
SANDLER STINKER SWEEPS!

"Jack and Jill" wins The Razzie in every category!

In the 32 year history of The Razzies, this is the first time that one movie has won every award. "Adam Sandler has a pretty much basic attitude of, 'No matter how dumb I make it, my fans are going to pay to see it,'" said Razzies founder John Wilson. "I guess it's more about the complete lack of any genuine effort or concern or pride. An attitude of "this is good enough", but when you consider what they're charging for movie tickets today, it wasn't good enough.

Sandler wins both Worst Actor and Worst Actress!

Thanks to his cross-dressing (which let the movie be nominated in the "Worst Ripoff, Remake, or Sequel" category as a 'remake' of "Glen or Glenda"), Sandler took home the awards for Worst Actor, Worst Actress, and Worst Screen Couple. "He didn't play triplets, but he couldn't have won more awards if he had," said Wilson. David Spade, in another cross-dressing role, took home the award for Worst Supporting Actress.

Al Pacino gets Razzie to go with his Oscar!

For his appalling performance as himself, Al Pacino won Worst Supporting Actor. This places him amongst the handful of Oscar winners who also have Razzies (http://therandomforest.com/oscar-winners-who-also-won-razzies/) to their... credit.

This year's Razzies:

Kirk Cameron collects a bunch of the cheap trophies for a movie that scored a perfect 0% at Rotten Tomatoes, and quickly fell to the bottom of IMDB's "Worst 100" list.

WORST SCREENPLAY: Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas
WORST SCREEN COMBO: Kirk Cameron & His Ego, Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas
WORST REMAKE, RIP-OFF OR SEQUEL: Annie
WORST DIRECTOR: Michael Bay, Transformers: Age of Ex-STINK-tion
WORST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Megan Fox, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
WORST ACTRESS: Cameron Diaz, The Other Woman and Sex Tape
WORST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Kelsey Grammer, Expendables 3, Legends of Oz, Think Like a Man Too, Transformers: Age of Ex-STINK-tion
WORST ACTOR: Kirk Cameron, Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas
WORST PICTURE: Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas

They had a new category this year, the "Redeemer", to honor those who turned their career around after getting a Razzie. The first honoree was Ben Affleck, who after being nominated for Worst Actor of the Decade (2000-2010), came back with excellent work in Argo and Gone Girl.

All of the Razzie noms for Kirk Cameron are well-deserved, but I'm surprised that that stinker 50 Shades of Grey didn't make it here.

I think technically "50" wasn't released until January, so it has 11 months of bad movies to protect it.

The 2016 Nominees are out!

"Zoolander 2" - a "15 years too late" sequel leads with nine nominations, "Batman v Superman: Nobody Wins" came in with eight.

Look, BvS had an incomprehensible plot - seriously, WTF was Luthor's plan? - and when it all hinges on the utter coincidence that their mothers had the same name????

They upped the number of nominees from five to six: "The crop of cinematic crap in 2016 was so extensive that this year's 37th annual Razzie Awards is expanding the number of nominees from the usual five to an unprecedented six contenders in each of its nine worst achievement in film categories," the group said in its press release.

The Worst Picture Nominees:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Dirty Grandpa
Gods of Egypt
Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party
Independence Day: Resurgence
Zoolander No. 2

Oh, by the way, The President has Meryl Streep beat on one thing: Trump has a Razzie....

All very worthy nominees!

My all-time favorite Razzie awards ceremony was the year that Halle Berry was nominated for one for Catwoman in the same year that she won an Academy Award for Monster's Ball -- and she won. So she showed up to collect her Razzie, with her Oscar in hand. What a good sport.

The 39th Razzie Nominations have been announced!

"With a stumbling stock market, a possible impending Presidential impeachment, raging wild fires, devastating floods, mass shootings and a litany of plagues that reached near Biblical proportions, 2018 was a year overfull with disasters.

"And then there were last year’s movies! As reflected in the list of contenders for this year’s 39th Annual Razzie® Awards, catastrophies occurred on-screen as well as off. Voting Razzie Members' selections for the five Worst Picture slots represent a melange of mishaps. They include: The misbegotten “mob drama” Gotti; the first film to feature graphic sex acts between humans and muppets, The Happytime Murders; A comedy whose own ads admit it "doesn't have a clue," Holmes & Watson; A 17th (and mostly incoherent) remake that left its rich investors poor,  Robin Hood; and an intriguing true story turned into a horrendous horror movie starring Oscar winner Helen Mirren (who got a Worst Actress nod for her efforts) Winchester.

I went to see " Cats " because I was curious if it really was as awful as they said it was. I saw it on a Wednesday and being 55+ of age and a Cinemark Movie member, I saw it for $4 at the casino ( Yes, most local casinos, not The Strip ones, have movie multiplexes in them with lounge chairs in them ) so the financial hit was not severe. It really was bad and the fact that so many of the stars, like Idris Elba for example, were in that shit show will be a stain on their careers. It will make for a lot of trivia fodder for the future though. :P

In the past we have thanked you for your service, but in this case we must thank you for sacrificing those two hours seeing CATS.
Glad to know some things can actually be truly and altogether awful.  Now, hopefully movie-makers can learn from it.

" Cats " in a way is like those awful videos from Russia where you see car accidents and the sheer stupidity that caused them to happen. It can be fascinating to see such a thing happen which causes great monetary loss and wrecks reputations ( I hope nobody died due to it. ). :P

I think the careers of all of the people who "acted" in Cats will survive -- mainly because so few people saw that mess in the cinemas and it will soon leave the collective consciousness except as a punchline to a joke :)

All three actors are held in such high esteem that this will blow over quickly. No one bats a thousand all the time. They'll be fine. The only person I'm worried about is the director, whoever he is. Cats is now his Heaven's Gate, his Ishtar.
