I don't think is was intentional again, however 3 times something similar has happened, hinting something 'sinister'?
-
I don't think it's intentional either. After all, wouldn't Adama say something about the site changing like this?
-
This is the first I've heard about it. But they've never told me any OTHER time they've redone the BEA site access. I imagine it's unintentional. Sigh.
-
Sounds like they really need to have content flags embedded into the site code and flag the Addventure free to possibly keep this from happening a 5th time (I expect implementing such to break again).
-
Hi everyone!
Sorry, sorry and sorry! We had such a huge work migrating BEArchive that we missed to check that.
Addventure will be free as it always was. We are asking the developers to fix this soon.
I'll appreciate if you post your "general complaints" and bug reports on this thread: http://forum.bearchive.com/index.php?topic=9996577.0 so we can track them better and fix them faster.

Well, I didn't start this thread exclusively for bug reporting, just as informational entertainment while waiting for the error correction. To poke fun at the hiccups, in a hopefully unhurtful way.
-
Why is it being called the old addventure.
Did something happen?
Also, the URL change pretty much breaks any old links.
-
It means the old server. The rest of the BEA moved to a new server.

Hopefully they'll do a redirect so that old links will still work. They haven't done it yet though.
-
Hi again!
We are fixing the access since it isn't working in all cases. The redirect after login still fails.
We will be moving addventure to the new server but we can't tell you when. We'll keep you posted.

It looks like the site is back, but now I'm experiencing a problem. I've tried to post a comment, but the site keeps giving me an "Internal Server Error" screen instead. The same thing is happening when I try to add tags to older episodes. I'm assuming that this will happen if I try to add new episodes, so I'm a bit reluctant to do so if it won't even allow me to post anything.

I'm just writing episodes in word (as I normally do anyway) saving them and waiting for all these transitional hiccups to get sorted before posting anything. I hope that the log in won't always be required because it is rather annoying hitting a bookmark and getting presented with a log in screen.

I don't seem to be experiencing that. I just go to the site and the site shows up. There's no log-in or anything. But it sounds like other people have to log in to see the site, oddly.

Hi! Can you please send me an email with the details of what you tried to do, the pages you saw and the error messages shown so we can test and fix it?

Turns out that BotComics is using this opportunity to sabotage the BEAddventure. Please join in this thread to try and talk some sense into him.
-
And someone broke the permissions for the Addventure again.
-
Indeed. Now instead of being sent to the login page for using a link to the Addventure, the site just sends you to a "You do not have permission to access this page" message, requiring you to go to the front page of the site, then to the login page (which is separate), before you can get to the Addventure.
Yay, extra steps to annoy people who were already annoyed by extra steps.
-
The developers are currently tinkering with Addventure login access. Hopefully to make it better.
-
Ah, that would explain why it stopped working.
-
I've now found that by editing my bookmark for the addventure Reecet Episodes page so that it begins old.bearchive.com rather than www.bearchive.com I can avoid having to jump through hoops to get there.
-
Is it just me, then, that has to login on the main page, which immediately asks you to login after you login? It has been doing this since At least early October. Doesn't matter which browser I use to login. It behaves as if the user/password is incorrect without actually saying such. I can't even browse however limited the free access was on the main pages' pins any longer, just see the darkened portions 'hidden' by the login popup.
-
It now appears to me that they've fixed the "Access Denied" issue, and we're back to seeing the Login page again. Can anyone else confirm that today's problem, at least, is fixed?
-
Broke again, gong to relog to check that portion.
It seems simultaneous main login and forum login doesn't play nice.
-
I am seeing a link to the addventure from the home page. Is that new?
-
I think that's been there for about two months now, but I'm not entirely sure. After all, I never got to the Addventure site through the main BEA site before all this log-in trouble started happening. Back then, I just went straight to the Recent Episode Lists page to access the Addventure site.

It was fixed earlier, but I just had to go through the whole Access Denied dance again a minute ago. Still tinkering, I take it?
-
I get access denied no matter how I try and get there now. After coming here and sometimes contributing for many years I'm reaching the stage where I give up and delete the links to this site. I'm getting tired of the way this place keeps jumping me to a page not found or access denied page since the changes.
-
They are working on not requiring a login at all, at least I hope so, bear with them a little longer...
-
In the end I only got it working again by going through the 'order content' page. No idea why it lost whatever setting doing that did - I didn't change any of the defaults in there but it stopped displaying the access denied page after that.
-
Adama and I have both been told that soon the Addventure will not require a login, and that the change may be made by roughly November 28th. But new bugs appear almost every time the engineers adjust anything around here, so don't get too worried if things seem to get worse before they improve. Please report new bugs here if you encounter any.
We'll keep you posted to whatever degree the admins keep us posted.

There was always a link to the Addventure from the home page, although back in the previous format, it was just another item on the long list of links -- about a third of the way down the second column.
With this new homepage format, yes, there's always been a link along the top row.
-
So... anyone else not able to access the recent episodes page via the addventure "home page" (the green one with all the updates listed on it)?
There were a line of links to different parts of the addventure at the rop of thd page yesterday but they've disappeared today.
Or is it just me?
-
Sorry about that. Should be better now. Can you see the links now?
-
Yeah everything is back now thanks dude!
