A fair question, LDW, since this definitely isn't the most literal usage of the word "avatar." Kithara, who draws our KC Strip which is packed full of our avatars, has wondered the same thing. I think for a lot of us the avatar is a kind of flag, or a shorthand introduction packed into a single image, saying "This is what we're for, this is what we're about." My own avatar is from the days of ye olde latex prosthetic models, back in the time when you actually had to photograph a BE, rather like Mastasia does, long before the Age of the Morpher came along. Goldeneye, for example, is clearly smitten (at present) with Christina Hendricks from "Mad Men" (and "Firefly" and elsewhere). And so it goes.
