I know it seems to go down every week, and that the net hiccups now and then, but I haven't been able to connect to the AddVenture for 12 hours now, it's starting to concern me. Is something the matter, or is this just an extra-long hiccup?

Booo  it didn't work tried to scare the hiccups away. Anyway thought it was just me. My path sometimes doesn't seem to work but I haven't been able to get on for a while either  Im with Zorlond does anyone know anything. |

No I don't know anything, as anyone who knows me can attest. And I'm having the same problem. Apparently www3.bearchive.com just plain isn't working. Been that way about 15-16 hours now. I lost contact while trying to post something and haven't been able to get it back since.

You have my sympathy, Dab. That's happened to me more than once. The Authors who habitually write long episodes know it better than anyone: that's two or three screens worth of code and maybe 45 minutes' work down the drain.  It usually demoralizes me so much that I just give up temporarily and go work on another thread when I get the connection back. It's definitely worth an ARRRRRRGH! |

Mystery solved, they MOVED it. Note the addies. The first page is still on www3, but the rest of it is now on 'bearchive.com'. Sheesh, tell us when you do something like that, guys...

I suspect it was down whilst they moved it, as I couldn't access via www.bearchive.com either. And you folk were lucky, as I couldn't access The Plume yesterday either. As for losing 45 minutes work, I'm sorry to hear that, but to type your episode directly into the form is asking for trouble. I always write my episodes using Notepad (there are plenty of other applications you could use), save it to my own hard drive, and then copy and paste into the form. |

Well, for most casual posters it probably will never be a problem, but for the writers of the longer episodes, that's a good idea. Guerilla posting, get in and get out, less chance of a crash. . . .  |

Actually, I always type right into the html form, and with my (few) long posts, I do a ctrl-C over the whole text before I continue the process. If the attempt fails, I can paste it into the notebook or straight back into the form for a second try. Heck, even if I didn't do it before a fail, I usually can hit the Back button and copy it.

Far as I can tell, it moved from 'www3.bearchive.com' to -just- 'bearchive.com'. Who knows why...

Odd. I can reach it at both addresses now. I think www3.bearchive.com and bearchive.com are just synonyms for each other (at least at present) -- the Index is reachable at both addresses.

I can reach the AddVenture both ways too. I think the bloody thing was just plain down when none of us could reach it -- anyone notice how few posts there were Sunday? But now it's up again. To paraphrase Panic: "Up. Up is good..."

Are other people having trouble accessing the addventure ATM, or is it just me? I couldn't access it yesterday (Sunday) evening, UK time (equating to early afternoon, PST), and I can't access it this evening either.

The BEArchive is a harsh mistress. Demands constant attention, but never returns your calls when you're horny. You wait, and you wait, and you wait. . . . "Where WERE you for the past 36 hours?" "I was unavailable." "Well . . . why? Was it something to do with me?" "I needed some time alone." Not a word of apology, not a word of explanation.
