remember "the crying man" from the syfy show slider?

What is with all this crying from men in politics?

We had Bush senior cry over his son, Jeb Bush loss, and then Glenn Beck crying on his show, but I have never seen anyone cry so easily in almost every interview I have seen of John Boenher, the weeper of the house! I can barely understand what he is saying every-time he cries and it's annoying as hell. It's like he is drunk and slobbering over his words. I have been told I write like he weeps! I am an artist, not a politician. But I dread not understanding the house speaker with a weeper in charge for the next 2 years.

No. I gave up on being surprised by things like that a long time ago.

Meanwhile Politifact.com has announced their "Lie of the Year":

The Democratic health care plan is a "government takeover of nearly 20 percent of our economy."
 - Republican Party of Florida, Friday, March 19th, 2010.

The Democrats' health care reform law is a "government takeover of health care."

*SIGH* If only ... Roll Eyes

Perhaps if that had happened we wouldn't still have such a f*cked up system of patch work health care in which consumers in this country are forced to spend vastly more money, and which results in no better outcomes here than in every other comparable health system around the globe. But the socialist bogeyman trotted out by the political conservatives, and their corporate health care masters, scared the bejeebers out of the American people and in to believing their lies. I need help understanding this, but it has been said that Harry Reid had to vote against the 9/11 health care for the responder bill in order to bring it back in.
He was the only Democrat that vote against it and not one Republican voted for it, and we were 3 vote short of passing it. Why did Harry Reid had to vote against it?

Under Senate rules only a senator who voted on the "prevailing" side can call the bill back for reconsideration.

NY Magazine: "Potential Presidential Candidate Haley Barbour Fondly Remembers White Supremacist Group"

Quote
He's said he's months away from deciding whether or not to run for president, but for Mississippi governor Haley Barbour, the campaign for the Southern conservative vote seems to already have begun. In an interview with the Weekly Standard, Barbour explains how racial harmony existed in his hometown of Yazoo City due to the enlightened influence of ... the local Citizens' Council.

Both Mr. Mott and Mr. Kelly had told me that Yazoo City was perhaps the only municipality in Mississippi that managed to integrate the schools without violence. I asked Haley Barbour why he thought that was so.

"Because the business community wouldn't stand for it," he said. "You heard of the Citizens Councils? Up north they think it was like the KKK. Where I come from it was an organization of town leaders. In Yazoo City they passed a resolution that said anybody who started a chapter of the Klan would get their ass run out of town. If you had a job, you'd lose it. If you had a store, they'd see nobody shopped there. We didn't have a problem with the Klan in Yazoo City."

In interviews Barbour doesn’t have much to say about growing up in the midst of the civil rights revolution. “I just don’t remember it as being that bad,” he said.

Yes, "up north" we think Citizens' Councils were like the KKK because in many ways, they were. They didn't go around burning crosses and lynching people, sure, but they were white supremacists whose mission was fighting racial integration. The Yazoo City chapter in particular was no different, despite Barbour's recollections....
OF COURSE you didn't have a problem with the Klan, you nitwit, you were IN the Klan.

(emphasis mine)

ABC News: "South Carolina Secession Draws Debate 150 Years Later"
'Secession Gala' to Commemorate Confederate States' Rights, or Defense of Slavery?

"It's been 150 years since South Carolina became the first state to secede from the Union ahead of Civil War, and today the legacy of that watershed moment in American history remains a flashpoint for debate.

Organizers say the "Secession Gala" in Charleston tonight will commemorate the event as a show of courage in the face of encroachment by the federal government on state's rights. But some historians and civil rights groups are protesting the event as the glorification of a defense of slavery.

Dozens of Civil War buffs and Confederate reenactors are expected to attend the $100-a-head event, where they will sip mint juleps, nibble on Carolina crab dip and mingle to the tune of "Dixie" in the presence of the state's original Ordinance of Secession, signed in 1860.

Some participants will reenact scenes from the secession convention, according to the program posted on the event website.

"We are commemorating the lives of 170 men of South Carolina in the same fashion that today we celebrate the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence -- that was a secession document from the crown of Great Britain," said Mark Simpson, South Carolina division commander of Sons of Confederate Veterans, a group sponsoring the gala.

"These 170 signers in South Carolina, at the risk of their lives said, 'We are doing what we believe we must do to determine our future.'" Simpson said the spirit of his Confederate forefathers deserves recognition and is still evident in southern politics and culture today.

"The Tea Party movement does seem to indicate people looking to uphold the constitutional rights of states," he said. "In the past year there have been a couple of dozen individual states that have passed sovereignty resolutions, including South Carolina, in response to the health care bill, saying it was unconstitutional to force a mandate upon us."

But during the lead up to the Civil War, historians argue, states' rights meant the ability to preserve the institution of slavery from federal government attempts to bring it to an end. And some say any attempt to separate the issue of state autonomy from the specter of slavery is historical revisionism.

"Slavery was the principal cause of the Civil War, period," said Bob Sutton, chief historian for the National Park Service. "Yes, politics was important. Yes, economics were important. Yes, social issues were important. But when you get to the core of why all these things were important, it was slavery."

The South Carolina chapter of the NAACP plans to hold a silent protest and vigil outside tonight's gala.

"This isn't the type of thing we should teach our young people to celebrate. Commemorate, ok. But to throw a big party, sip juleps, play 'Dixie,' and wear costumes is downright wrong," said Lonnie Randolph, president of the South Carolina chapter of the NAACP. "'States' rights' are cold words used to hide the truth. They were fighting for states' rights to buy, sell, r_pe and kill African-American slaves. Let's stop using code words."..."

Too true. No surprise that Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was set in the Carolinas.

In the face of constant, usually wrong-headed and completely partisan opposition from the Republicans, and despite some huge omissions (net neutrality being the most recent), you still have to give it up for Pres. Obama and what he did achieve in just under two years.

I don't see a difference in KKK membership, period. I assuming that what you're implying is that Haley Barbour is an unrepentant racist, but Robert Byrd "did what he had to do" to get elected as a Democrat in West Virginia, as none other than William Jefferson Clinton implied following the death of the former Klan recruiter. You don't get to be chair of the Appropriations committee without holding a tight line to the Democrat platform, both past and present. My thoughts are that, even if Robert Byrd disliked joining the Klan, he wasn't man enough to risk defeat in his election to counter the prevailing racist sentiments of the day. Either way, it's a lose-lose, as was that Byrd.

Rumor has it that Joe Manchin is threatening to turn Republican...how you like them "KKK" apples? Tongue

And more to the point, Q_BE, if only you had been following the news (other than from Faux News, of course), you would have seen that the number two reason that I didn't refer to Robert Byrd is HE AIN'T ANGLING TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT, and the number one reason why I didn't refer to Robert Byrd is BECAUSE HE'S DEAD.

False equivalences do not help your case. No white man -- actually, no person, no matter what their race -- who looks back fondly on the time when black people could be lynched and people would come out to see it as if it's a rock concert, should be allowed ANYWHERE NEAR THE WHITE HOUSE. Period.

So, now Boehner & Co. are in charge of the US House of Representatives. What have they been up to?

Well, first of all, they let two dudes vote even though they hadn't yet been properly sworn in. Nice way to maintain and uphold the rule of law so far.

Next, someone gets the great idea to give Boehner a huge gavel. Bigger than the one that was once given to Nancy Pelosi. Of course. You know what they say about men and their need to overcompensate for something. Remember: it's not the size of the boat, but the motion in the ocean. (And that ocean will probably be comprised mainly of Boehner's copious tears.)

Then the ghost of Mickey Rooney showed up and exclaimed "Hey kids, let's put on a show!". And so they decided to take the time to read the entire US Constitution on the floor of the House. It wouldn't have been so bad -- after all, it's a good idea to make sure that they actually know the contents of the document they swore to uphold and protect when they took office -- except they decided to read a, shall we say, "edited" version. You know, leaving out juicy bits like Article 1, Section 2. That's the part that declared that slaves were three-fifths of a human being.

Oh, and since they left the door open and someone dragged in a cat, when they got to the part about natural-born citizens, some birther started shouting "Except Obama!"

Yup, just another day in the neighborhood.

Did you see that article about the amount of time the Nazis spent pursuing the owner of a dog that supposedly barked "heil!" instead of "woof!"? (Klaus Hillenbrand, a Nazi-era expert told the Associated Press, "Just months before the Nazis launched their attack on the Soviet Union, they had nothing better to do than to obsess about this dog.") One of the comments there is so relevant to our current situation that I feel compelled to quote it in full here.

"Click Click BOOM ranted 'To save America, we MUST ELIMINATE the DIMocRAT party!'

So basically Click Click BOOM, you want to create a one party system like China, the USSR or —wait for it— Nazi Germany! Well you've showed your true distain for our Constitution buddy.

Let's remember, The Nazi party made itself the only legal party in Germany, much like what you want here in the USA. They lied with propaganda, slandered and dismantled the laws in Germany and endedx democracy; they lied to justify unilaterally invade Poland and Czechoslovakia.

Nazi ideology was hostile to communism, liberalism, and democracy. The Nazis persecuted those they perceived as either race enemies. This included Jews, Blacks, Gypsies, and so-called "half-breeds" along with Communists, homosexuals, and others.

Hmmm remind folks of anyone?

Bush and Cheney lied to START the war in Iraq. Now we're left to try and clean up his and Cheney's MESS.

Don't let the Republican spin machine gloss over the facts. Bush was the worst President ever. Cheney was a vengeful conniving politician right out of a Hollywood movie. Let me remind people of the The Bush-Cheney-Republican years—

They and Republican legislators happily dismantled all the sane rules put in place to rein in the greedy excesses of big banks and Wall Street, which then set off the worst recession since the Great Depression. They ran roughshod over the Constitution and intentionally LIED to the nation with fabrications about non-existent weapons of mass destruction into going into a COMPLETELY illegal, immoral, poorly planned, poorly funded and POINTLESSLY HUMILIATING war with Iraq against all EVIDENCE to the contrary, costing far more than the Health Reform Bill ever could in not only treasure, BUT AMERICAN LIVES and world prestige. And then viciously attacked ANYONE who questioned the reasons as TRAITORS. And Congressional Republicans gleefully joined in. Remember Republican FREEDOM FRIES?

Good times for those who love to wave the flag while despoiling the Constitution.

Minister of Propaganda Goebbels perfected the "Big Lie" technique of propaganda, which is based on the principle that a lie, if audacious enough and repeated enough times, will be believed by the masses. That describes Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity perfectly with this "Obama is a Muslim" lies and "Obama is not a US citizen" lie and "Obama WANTS to destroy America" lie!

Goebbels used propaganda techniques to accused many of Germany's minorities (such as the Poles, the Jews, the French) of trying to destroy Germany.

Today's propagandist accuse many of America's minorities (such as the Mexicans, the Jews, Arabs and Blacks) of trying to destroy the USA.

While The Right TRIES to pin a swastika on Obama, remember this quote by Nazi leader Herman Goring: "Naturally, the common people don't want war. It is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." It sure worked for Bush and Cheney.

And the Right in America are at it again: "denouncing liberals for lack of patriotism and SUPPOSEDLY exposing the country to danger."

I am SO sick of the Right-Wing attempt to rewrite history."
