The Cleveland Indians just won their 22nd consecutive game, beating the Kansas City Royals 3-2 in ten innings.

This was the first time in the streak where:

The game went to extra innings.
They won on a "walk off" hit.
They were behind in the game for more than two innings. Actually, before tonight's game, they were behind in those 21 games for just four innings in total.

This is F*ing amazing. Their pitching staff has a collective earned run average of 1.77 over the streak. Clayton Kershaw is currently leading the majors with a ERA for the season of 2.12 - so the Indians staff has been better than the best pitcher in the game. They've thrown seven shutouts, which is more than seven teams have ALL SEASON. They've hit more home runs than their opponents have TOTAL runs.

The all-time longest winning streak is 26 by the 1916 Giants, though some don't consider that correct since one of the games in the middle was called a tie. Nevermind that the game was replayed in its entirety the next day, and the Giants won (of course). The Indians can put it all behind them with four more wins.

Funny how life can be. Remember not long ago Charlie Sheen made a movie mocking the Cleveland Indians, at the beginning anyways, and having great fun doing it ? Here we are now, in the cusp of doing something that hasn't been done in 100+ years, which is break that old New York Giants streak by the team that used to be so hopeless Hollywood made a movie about it. Who says life can't be surprising ?  :)

Here is the most pathetic aspect of the Cleveland Indian's streak that very few people are bringing up.
They are not even close to selling out their games. They had less than 25,000 fans for a game earlier in the week.
People in Montreal are shaking their heads!

So not only did they get it right some two and a half years ago, the guy on the cover is the World Series Most Valuable Player this year.

Yes, this is a real billboard for a real radio station.

The never-for-profit WFMU ran a Kickstarter campaign to fund it, and let donors vote for their choice of design.

It's one of the things that keep me awake at night. I think of all the world's information being on such fragile (digital) ground these days and it makes me shudder.

Remember NBA superstar, the late Manute Bol? At 7' 7" (2.31 m) not only was he one of the tallest men ever to play the game (Gheorghe Mureșan was that tall too), it turns out he might also have been one of the oldest.

New York Daily News: "Manute Bol lied about his age, may have been 50 years old when he played in the NBA: report"

For Manute Bol, age was nothing but a number.

On his Wikipedia page, it states Bol passed away at the age of 47, but former Cleveland State coach Kevin Mackey said Bol might have actually been playing in the NBA at that age.

Bol's biography says he was born on October 12, 1968 but that didn't come from his birth certificate, it came from Mackey.

"I gave him his birthday because they didn't know how old he was," Mackey, currently a scout with the Indiana Pacers, told ZAGSBLOG. "It was in October, I wanted to make it after Sept. 1. I wanted to make sure he was young enough because he didn't have an age. I think he was [IN HIS 40S], I really do. But there's no way of ever really knowing."

"Every athletic door is open at 19, every athletic door is closed when you're 35," the Cleveland State coach said, "He was probably 40, 50 years old when he was playing in the NBA."

Mackey
recruited Bol from Sudan and brought him to Cleveland in 1985 in hopes of receiving the next big prospect and even went as far as lying about his birthdate to get him.

"The immigration people were in the office [at Cleveland State] and they thought it was great," Mackey said. "They loved it. And they were big fans of Cleveland State, they used to come to all our games. They wanted to cover themselves because Manute was starting to get so much publicity. His picture was in the paper. He was on the 6 o'clock news because he was a such a different looking guy than everyone else. At that time, no one had ever seen anything like it."...
