But then again, she sounds like she didn't have basic self-preservation instincts.
I wonder if any of her daughters have now grown up to be models, strippers or escorts... of course, they probably wouldn't know who their mother was... it'd be interesting to go around the LA area strip clubs and look for young naturally huge-chested African beauties and see if there's any family resemblance.
I noticed that Yahoo has taken down two of the sites devoted to her, and the third, run by the fellow who writes in ALL CAPS ALL THE TIME, has cut off the Message function.
She had mentioned to a couple of her clients that her mother and sister had both worked in the business, but few hookers are inclined toward insightful inquiry. I've got a lot of empathy for the ladies of the night because I've know a lot of 'em over the years. Bill, my friend, let me tell you about law firms. The top dogs represent the brothel owners. The middle partners represent the pimps. Guys like me represent the whores. Whenever the local bar association declares a jihad on wickedness, they never seem to think there's anything wrong with owning a brothel, and damnned little wrong with pimping. Most bar associations don't like people who talk about the similarities between pimping and their lawyer referral services. So they go after guys like me.
But I digress.
The self-preservation thing is always an issue with ladies of the street. For example, the American Psychiatric Association estimates that less than 1% of the female American population suffers from a condition known as borderline personality disorder. But a study done about 20 years ago concluded that 35% of streetwalkers have it. BPD is one of the few mental illnesses with a predicted death rate: 15%, about the same as untreated smallpox, from suicide. Mental health workers who deal directly with borderlines estimate it's about 25%, including their role as murder victims and from drug overdoses.
As I age and pass into senility, I have come to believe every guy should tangle with a borderline at least once. Over the years I'm pretty certain I've dealt with at least five, two of whom I didn't **82** with. Although if you don't **82** with 'em, they don't notice you're in the room. By the way, "Fatal Attraction" was... well, it was a bit over the top. One of my borderline gfs used to express her disapproval of me by throwing knives, but her aim was lousy and the make-up sex was FABULOUS!
All this is by way of saying that a lot of prostitutes, especially those involved with pimps, have BPD, and it's likely that Yolanda did. By the way, I haven't seen reliable numbers about drug addiction among streetwalkers, but guesses range up to 80%.
Maybe I should take this into personal messages, except what pertains directly to Yolanda.
Except for this. There is so much stigma associated with **31** that I have to mention the Australian studies. About thirty years ago the Australia and New Zeland parliaments undertook to do some serious research on **31** to see if they should change their various laws. There had never been a serious study done there, and there have never been any serious studies done here in the U.S. But one of the most interesting findings was in a survey done of approximately 1,200 women health care workers and college students (A group not likely to be prostitutes). When asked, "Have you ever worked as a prostitute?", the affirmative responses were 0.5%, about the same as in the U.S. and about the same percentage as had been convicted of a **31**-related crime. On the other hand, when the question was rephrased later in the same survey and asked as, "Have you ever had sexual intercourse with someone you would not have done so, in exchange for an immediate cash payment?", the affirmative response was 9%. In short, most studies underestimate the frequency of the experience by at least 1,800%
