She was born Ingoushka Petrov in Poland to a Jewish mother and a German father who was a scientist and refused to work on the Nazis' rocketry program. Pitt was five when she and her mother were sent to the Stutthof concentration camp, where they remained for three years. "I think I first knew I wanted to act in the camp," she said. "I used to lie on the straw and try and believe I was somewhere else."

When they were taken into a forest to be shot, Pitt and her mother managed to escape and were rescued by partisans. They spent the last year of the war living rough with the partisans, before making their way to Berlin. "I was born into the biggest horror show of the century, the brutalities of the Nazi regime," said Pitt. "I think it's very amazing that I do horror films when I had this awful childhood. But maybe that's why I'm good at it."

BTW that brings up something I've long wondered about - Can a Jewish vampire be repelled with a cross? ???

I didn`t know until just now that Nielson was legally deaf throughout his life.
I knew that! He is one of my kind!
"Yesterday, Reince Priebus called this whole story a 'nothing burger,'" he said. "Well these emails have turned it into an all-you-can-prosecute buffet."

I think I saw every episode of "Police Squad" that was aired--I can't remember if it was three or four-- and I should have realized that it was much too good to last. He used a lot of "language humor" (Whenever anyone said to go "back to the station", he drove in reverse) with his total deadpan delivery and it was as funny as George Carlin's material. Apparently there were only about a dozen of us watching, because it was pulled.

it is 6 episodes  ;D

"Luke, I am your father!"

Irvin Kershner, the director of what is arguably the best sci-fi sequel of all time (The Empire Strikes Back) died on the same day that Leslie Nielsen did. He was 87.

#10, Chicago Cubs.

The finest third baseman not yet in the Hall of Fame.

The finest third baseman never to appear in a World Series.

One of the nicest people ever to play baseball.

And by the way, he did take self-injected drugs.... He was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of 18... when the only way to treat it was to shoot yourself up with insulin...

"On the field, Ronnie was one of the greatest competitors I've ever seen. Off the field, he was as generous as anyone you would want to know.... I learned a lot about what it means to be a caring, decent human being from Ron Santo." - Ernie Banks

The Original Dallas Cowboy, he actually signed with them before the franchise officially joined the NFL. From high school through the pros, he played all his home games within a few hours drive of Dallas.

He didn't win any Super Bowls for Dallas, but he laid the foundations for their becoming "America's Team".

"He had a wonderful sense of humor and a very laid-back personality. But he was an absolutely intense competitor who could rally a team." - Cowboys president and general manager Tex Schramm

He had a second career when he was tapped to be a part of the Monday Night Football team alongside Frank Gifford and Howard Cosell. He was ideal for the team, keeping things light - the perfect foil to Howard.

Turn out the lights, the party's over....

Being a Cowboys fan since 1964, when they were the only pro football team that broadcast into Mexico, I grew up with ol' Dandy Don Meredith and suffered through those years when the Cowboys were tarred as a team that could not win " The big one " . I still remember the heartache of the 1967 NFL championship game between Dallas and Green Bay, AKA the " Ice Bowl ", where it was so cold that Jethrow Pugh, defensive tackle # 75 of Dallas, lost part of his ear due to frostbite. This was also the era where Dallas had it's highest scoring teams in franchise history. I also loved how in Monday Night Football he would play the Texas good ol' boy foil to Howard Cossel's New Yawk knowitall pompous blowhard. Made for great broadcasting. I'll always remember how on a Raiders - Oilers game, the Oilers were getting waxed and so they started to pan the cameras into the Houston Astrodome stadium crowd and a disgusted fan gave the middle finger to the camera. It was too late to edit out but Dandy Don said in that Texas drawl " Well folks, obviously he thinks the Oilers are #1 " and made it into a lighthearted moment  :). Retired in 1969 and I remember how we Cowboys fans were afraid for the future. Craig Morton became #1 but in 1971 he was replaced by a Naval Academy graduate who did win the Big Game twice, Roger " the dodger " Staubach.

Yes; sorry about that. I heard about it from Annie Sprinkle, who is Communications Central for retro porn. I gather that AVN has a long obit, but I don't have a link. Imagine The Hedgehog without the hair. And thinner.
