On Friday, June 24, the New York Senate voted 33-29 in favor of the
Marriage Equality Act. New York Governor
Mario Cuomo signed it into law within hours -- just in time for the New York Pride Parade. This makes New York the sixth state/territory in the country to approve same-sex marriage (the others: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, the District of Columbia, as well as the Coquille Indian tribe in Oregon).
