Rptoe, technically the Korean war is still on, there has only been a seize fire and it happened in 1953, not 1983. Surprised you did not mention that the military draft ended forty years ago and the all volunteer force began. Also, forty years ago the last US combat troops departed Viet Nam.

I believe Mr. rtpoe was being ironic. The television series "M.A.S.H.", which many Americans mistook for the Korean War, ended in 1983.

Never saw it. I was in the Indian Ocean on deployment so I guess I never picked up the reference.

I was hoping the 'Capt. B.F. Pierce' reference would have done it. Maybe I should have said 'Capt. 'Hawkeye' Pierce'...

I did not see much of the show to be honest. I did not like it's anti-military slant mocking military service. It's one thing to be anti-war but to mock those who have sworn to protect the Constitution and the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, is something else. My $0.02.

Fair enough. Now, did anyone get the reference to Steve Austin under 1973?

The made-for-TV movie that launched the series premiered in March of that year.... :)

125 years ago yesterday a group of grumpy old white guys gathered at the Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C., and founded the National Geographic Society. This morning is the 125th anniversary of a bunch of grumpy old white guys waking up and asking, "We did...what?!?"

2013 is the 50th Anniversary of the start of the British Television series 'Doctor Who' that began on the 23rd of November 1963, incidentally it is also the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, which happened the day before Doctor Who was first shown.
