My apologies to one and all I contacted just now when this place, from my perspective, suddenly became a White Screen of Death but with a little note saying that SMF was failing to connect with the database, or some such claim.  What the Sumbitch Mother Freakin' heck is SMF, anyway, and why would I never have heard of it before, and should I be concerned?  Again, my apologies.

addendum: okay, I'm suddenly not so apologetic after all because just now it froze this very composition for several minutes.  Any ideas?

I think it stands for "Simple Machines Forum", which is a kind of software so over-engineered that even idiots like me can use it.

Of course, it breaks down all the time, but the brochure doesn't mention that part.

SMF is the name of the software controlling this forum. (See down there at the bottom of the page?) Doug the servadmin took the forum down briefly on Sunday at about 6:45pm EST to change some settings.
