I’ve been thinking of starting this thread for a while, but never got around to it.
There have been many, but I’ll make a start.

Kevin McNally – UK – Designated Survivor
Keifer Sutherland – Canada/UK - Designated Survivor
Andrew Lincoln – UK –Walking Dead
Karl Urban – New Zealand – Star Trek
David Harewood UK - He's been in loads playing an American.
Tim Roth - UK - Lie to me.
Hugh Laurie - UK - House
Millie Bobby Brown - UK/Spain - Stranger Things
Daniel Day-Lewis - UK - Lincoln
Liam Neeson - UK - (whoever you are, I will hunt you out and kill you)
Lennie James - UK - Walking Dead

There are loads more - but my mind has gone blank - more when I think of them.

Nothing new about this. The 1939 movie " Gone with the Wind ", which remains the most seen movie in history in ticket sales and, if you take into account inflation, revenue, starred UK actors Vivien Leigh ( narcissist Scarlett O'Hara ), Leslie Howard ( pussy whip Ashley Wilkes ) and Olivia de Havilland ( saintly do gooder Melanie Hamilton ). Australia gave us Errol Flynn ( which gave us the expression " in like Flynn " or getting away with it ), Nicole Kidman and others. Canada has given us John Candy  :'( and Dan Aykroyd. Hollywood was a global juggernaut by the 1920's and the fact remains that if you want to be a international star, you have to go to La La Land. Besides, most " American " movies are no longer made in the USA. Canada is usually used as a cheap standby for the USA and since Hollywood no longer sees it itself as particularly American anymore anyways, most movies are no longer set in the USA.

True - but I can't really remember actors putting on such convincing accents back then.

Maybe its just me then - but I seem to notice them more now.

On " Gone with the wind ", one of the reasons why Vivien Leigh was picked was because she could do a American southern accent better than most non - southern native born Americans. Clark Gable could not pull it off without sounding ridiculous so he did not do it.

Let's not forget the delicious Nicola Bryant who played Peri in Doctor Who.
She even pretended to be American to get the part.

Was Xena an American - or did Lucy just play her with a US accent?  :)

Lauren Cohan - Walking Dead.  Technically an American; but brought up in UK, has a British accent. But puts on an American accent on TV.

Would Steven Segal now qualify for this list?  Putin just granted him Russian Citizenship.  (I'm not kidding)

Not that Captain Shoepolish in his hair is relevant anymore.
