She was often credited as Mary Gavin (which is believed to have been taken from her real first name, Mary, and a family name, Gavin), though early in her career she sometimes appeared under the names Vivian Andresen and Candy Mosler. In this regard, it was rumored (unsubstantiated) that she was an heiress to the Mosler Safe fortune. [Candy claimed, in a purported interview in 1978 in a publication entitled Candy & Uschi, published by American Art Enterprises, Inc., that she had inherited "a fair amount of money" prior to getting into hardcore. However, she "met a car salesman who I fell madly in love with and he took me for a long ride...And I ended up penniless."] She appeared in numerous films and magazines during her heyday. Much of her work tended more toward the softcore, though she made appearances in hardcore. Despite her large breasts, she had a relatively lean body overall (her measurements reported as 48DD-24-36).
Candy was reportedly illegitimate. Her upbringing was rather harsh as her mother did not want what had happened to her to happen to Candy. Candy admitted that it was very, very late when she started having sex and that she was 28 before she knew about oral sex.
Candy reportedly came to Los Angeles from Kansas City in 1964. She was widowed and was a single parent raising her [censored] (a son) on Social Security. Subsequently, she began tearoom modeling in the San Fernando Valley. According to Candy's Web site, [[1]], "I've always been a nudist at heart, which is surprising as I'm from the conservative midwest. However, when I was bouncing down the street in Marina Del Rey, California and Dick J. approached me to model for him and when he said it was nude modeling, I thought maybe. About two weeks later I called him and my career was launched." This appears to have happened about 1968/1969.
During this period, Candy did 4 or 5 hardcore films, later opting not to make any more because of her fear of being prosecuted and because actors (at that time) didn't make any money doing hardcore. Later, in the 1980s, Candy returned to doing hardcore films.
Candy was a feature dancer for many years (1970s to 1990s) and later appeared in several hardcore films in the 1980s. She has had a monthly column, Candy's Column, in Juggs magazine for a number of years.
Candy has retired from the dancing circuit and from films. Toward the end of her career, it was obvious that she had had her breasts enlarged (taking her measurements up to 48EE) and plastic surgery on her face to reduce an aquiline nose. A natural brunette, she often wore blonde (both yellow and platinum) wigs for photos, movies and on the dancing circuit.
Candy has been immortalized by the Zodiac Killers in the song, I Want A Girl Just Like Candy Samples [[2]].
According to a recent Candy's Column in Juggs magazine, Candy is reportedly "happily married and happily retired."
