I've started getting a lot of server error 403 pages. Is anyone else getting these? Am i angering the server gods, or is there a server problem?
-
Not only 403's but also 503's and server overload messages. Usually, it clears when I refresh the page. :P
-
I get occasional 503s but a page refresh "fixes" that. It's the here again, gone again photo appearance thing that really gets my goat.

The photos are annoying going in and out. >:( But yesterday I was able to load a 2.99 MB gif. :)

First time checking in after a few weeks and yes, getting 403s here as well, but in random clumps. It does appear that direct image links to remoter servers are the most problematic whereas images uploaded to the BEA server are less impacted. Sometime, there is no 403 but the file name is NOT what the link has and lacks any type of extension, while also not going to the default folder location... all of which is disconcerting and makes the malware and virus monitors ping a little.
-
I've been getting the 503's more at other sites - got my first ones here earlier tonight.
And it seems to be random as to why some attached pictures will be visible, and others just have a link.
-
OK. I just don't want to get banned for "unusual behavior" or some stuff like that.
-
For the past week to week and a half, I have noticed that most of the pictures in a thread don't load and appear. Sometimes you have to refresh the page multiple times to get them to show up and when you do others that were there are gone.
Then periodically I get a 503 service unavailable error.
Is this just me, or is there something wrong with the forum again?
-
Ugh.
Not just you.
If you leave General Discussion and head over to Site Issues, you’ll see many others complaining about issues with the forum.
-
I have discussed it with the forum tech guys, just waiting for a response.
-
I can't even see one of the photos I uploaded yesterday. Among many others.
-
Got this message from the tech guys.
SMF was opening up a large number of host processes and then not closing them properly. The hostname lookups have now been disabled on the forum. We believe this should fix a lot of the issues related to the 403 / error 503 forbidden, all those kinds of errors which are related to the server reaching the process limit.

I just hope that this is not a different way of saying something like, the check is in the mail, I won't cum in your mouth, pigs really do fly, etc. I just want to navigate the forum without hitting some underwater rock that can sink the boat, that's all. :P

I've just added some image posts and there were no more 403 or 503 messages and ALL of the photos in the threads are now seemingly back to normal. Hopefully this thread will get no more complaint entries. Cross your fingers. :)

That's one reason why I hate Instagram. They will give you "we've detected unusual behavior" messages even when you haven't used the app in a week. And they have only automated systems that are completely useless to appeal to. You would think that with all their money they could afford to hire human beings in their customer support and tech support teams.

Just got the 403 thing again last night :( Maybe the BEA forum is just self destructing... ;(
-
I stayed away for a couple of weeks, came back last night. I was able to look at a grand total of 6 threads before 403 happened. Refreshing the page doesn't help, it just backs me up one page each time, then if I click on something I still get 403'd. I really don't want to quit this place, but this is just retarded. I have no idea why it's hitting me so bad, it appears like something I could live with if it acted how other guys are describing. >:( :(

I haven't had that problem lately. I thought you were in trouble. I sent you a PM because I was concerned. This site is mostly ok now but it ain't 100% yet. :P
-
No 403s for me in a long while (knocks wood & throws salt over his shoulder), so sorry to hear you're still having that issue.
-
I looked at 3 or 4 threads last night and got the errors again. Really disappointing. I miss what this place used to be :/

It can be very frustrating when we the users seem to care more about maintaining what makes the BEA Forum unique and great and worth keeping alive, than the people who are paid to maintain it :/

I rarely get through more than half a dozen threads before I'm hitting 403s. I still come in occasionally, but I'm beginning to suspect I'm some kind of masochist. :P
-
Getting them worse than ever. I'm lucky to make more than one post without getting 403'd. I'm running the current Firefox on Win7, I have no idea why this is happening.
-
I use Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge and so far, knock on wood, no 403's. I know that Win 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft. Could that be the problem ? ???
-
That's not it. I'm on Windows 11 running Firefox, both fully up to date, and I'm getting both 403s and 503s.
-
Could it be the Firefox? I don't understand why, if it is.
-
No I'm Chrome Mac. I think the server is counting every image preview and every image expansion as extra hits, so if you just look at threads with more images, you get blocked faster. It's basic web server configuration :(
-
Well, I'm still getting 403'ed a lot. Rarely do I get through more than a couple of dozen threads before I'm 403'ed off the site. I've tried everything I can think of.
Also, I've noticed many times when I click on the 'New' button for a thread, I'm not taken to the new posts, but to some random post earlier in the thread. On some of the longer threads, I've been taken back literal years. I know for a fact I've visited most of these threads a lot later than that.
I really don't know how much longer I'm gonna keep trying to participate in this forum, even in the limited manner available to me, under these conditions.

I'm sorry to hear about your travails on this site. I don't get many 403's, or at least for a while, but like you, when I search for a thread, I usually end up in the far past so I have to manually get it to the newest post on the thread. Not fatal but annoying, that's for sure. :P

Oh yeah, the 'New' button problem is only an annoyance that I am perfectly willing to deal with. The 403 thing is quite a bit beyond that.

I've had a problem with 1-2mb attachments, but only on the Beshine thread; there is always a error message and it may take a dozen attempts over hours before it takes. I believe that there server is unable to handle anything beyond a couple kb on that thread, but seriously, this problem has been ongoing for months. I usually post, then go back numerous times before it will accept the picture. Just saying here as I know no one that has the ability cares enough to rectify the problem.

I've been able to attach up to 3MB to any other thread with no problem, but Beshine's thread also gives me hard time unless I edit the photo and minimize it in order to make it work. I have no idea why unless Beshine has forced the BEA to make her thread extra special in some respects. ???
