Don’t know if there are any HP fans out there, like me, but I figured I’d start a thread about it since HBOMAX is streaming a 20th anniversary special today, New Year’s Day. Hard to believe it’s been 20 years.
-
So far, no HP fans commenting on the special. That’s too bad. I didn’t understand why there was no appearance by Michael Gambon, who played Dumbledore after Richard Harris died.
Anyway, during our vacation this past December, we visited both HP theme parks in Universal, so I’ll post a few of those pix if anyone cares. First up: Borgin & Burke’s in Knockturn Alley

Big Potter fan here. Not seen the special yet.
I was watching 'Hogwarts: Tournament of Champions' though, that was a fun quiz between the Hogwarts houses.
I visited Universal a few years ago too. It was around Christmas time so Hogsmeade was covered in snow. Even had lunch in the Three Broomsticks. The Harry Potter attraction is quite something.
Being from the UK, I have also been to the Harry Potter Studio Tour in Watford, just outside London. I highly recommend that. I am hoping to go back there this year and take my daughter, she is just getting into the movies and asked for Harry Potter dolls for her Christmas.

I don't have anywhere to watch the special. :(

Okay, when you watch the special, maybe you could tell me if the sets that they’re on are from the Watford studio tour. Did they keep a lot of sets up from the movies? That would explain a lot.
I liked the quiz show, too, just thought it was too short of a run. Would have been nice if they had discussed exactly who those people are who made up the various “houses”. How were they selected? To me, they could make a full season show of it: have four mini contests to get into a house and then pit the houses against each other. That would be cool.

Salem, Hogsmeade is always covered in snow. :) Were you able to take the Hogswarts Express to Diagon Alley?
-
It is?
Forgive me, I've only been there once, but will hopefully be back in April, Covid permitting.
I did ride the Hogwarts express. I also did the two (at the time) Harry Potter rides, plus the Hippogriff rollercoaster.

Wait, I’m confused. Did you ride the Hogwarts Express to Diagon Alley?
The dragon from Gringott’s bank belches fire every ten minutes or so.

Nice, Salem!
You’re making me realize that I forgot to put a copyright on all the pix I took in Orlando :(
Are these pix from Orlando?

Just so you know, Cinemark theaters are putting all the original Harry Potter movies starting with Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone starting from 4/6/22 to 4/13/22 for $5. Cheap enough to enjoy it on full screen where the special effects are better than a 65" TV screen. :)

Recently went down to the Flatiron District in NYC to go to a pub called The Cauldron where you could make a couple of very cool potions (alcoholic or not) just as if you were in a potions class in Harry Potter. Their presentation left a bit to be desired but we had fun, anyway.
Turns out that just a few blocks away next to the Flatiron building is an official Harry Potter store, so Charade an I stopped by before meeting our kids at The Cauldron, later. I’ll share a few pix, here. The central staircase was made to look like the staircase to Dumbledore’s office. The griffon also revolved.

You should be in front of her and protect her. ;) ;D

Now, this is from the original Universal Studio and relatively nearby from here in Vegas, only 300 miles away, in Hollywood, California. :)
Bloody hell, Sol, can you not see the ch1ldren in that photo? - Salem

Pretty much a replica of what’s in Universal in Orlando. Not surprised. I’m gonna guess that most, if not all the pix I show from when we were in Orlando will be the same in California.
I wonder if they still have that back-set tour by tram of the Universal lots.

I wanted to go on that, but Charade does not do well on roller coasters unless they’re fairly tame. I had to check out Hagrid’s coaster online to see if it was okay and it looked good until I realized that the entire ride hadn’t been posted and we found out there’s a bit where the tracks suddenly drop out from under you or some such. Fortunately, we found out before we went on the ride.

The EXIT signs kinda ruin the effect. LOL

Love how the front of the shop bows out. Typical of very old British buildings.

This is from an ad for the tee shirt. But, what the heck? What is Richard Harris? Chopped Liver?

Merry Christmas at Universal studios Hollywood. Now that I think about it, it's been over 20 years since I visited Universal Studios. :P

This is from the outside of Olivanders wand shop, in Leadenhall Market in London. Leadenhall Market was used as Diagon Alley for certain scenes filmed in the first movie. Notice the nice paint job they did after filming!

Huh, they should have a "Flourish and Blotts" sign up there. ;)

Oh, yeah, I didn’t think of that!
Below, the **103** entranc3 to Dumbledore’s office or the stairs to the basement of the HP store?

Yesterday at 3PM, 1500 hours, I went to see a movie I loved when it was released back on November 16, 2001, and I enjoyed all of the franchise movies also. :)

What is the censored word behind **103**?
As you know, I'm a little bit like Professor Slughorn, collecting "forbidden" (censored) words (instead of famous Hogwarts' students).
