i've been curious to know what's up with the star ratings. if your peers vote you to a low rating, can that change your priviledges on the board? and who the hell would want to rate another person in stars from one to five? evaluating films on a one-to-five scale is meaningless enough, but to measure people that way is insulting. i assume it's only been used in sport, but the software seems to present it in a straightforward and humorless tone. is it supposed to be like a warning percentage on AIM? or is the idea simple to "rate" people based on how well you like their opinions, or their prose, or humor...?

That about sums up my opinion too. I just disable mine (on the "my profile" settings page).

I'm actually surprised that there aren't any members of this forum who are purposely trying to lose stars...

I gave ahamu22 5 stars because he has a nice beat and he's easy to dance to.

Whew! I thought I was the only one who wondered constantly about the star ratings. I don't know what the hell that is, but I've always been very happy that I had three stars, and just now noticed that I have been "upgraded" to four. I understand that might not mean anything at all, but what the hell, can't a guy feel special? (I'll probably still be surprised when I come back to find two or three of my stars gone just to teach me a lesson.) I figured they were supposed to determine how many of the regulars who go out of their way to rate someone actually like you. So every now and again, I click on someone and give them a boost. Don't know what the hell that does, but I try to be nice.
