I've always liked Adam Hughes' work and I've always liked the way Power Girl's chest is drawn. It's good to see Hughes working on it now.

What took him so long?
-
I absolutely love that picture. It gives me many great art ideas.
-
Mmmm, that's a great pic.

Wouldn't it be even better if it were real?

About your avatar.. know anywhere the old set of Taylor Stevens or Taylor whatsisname is available? It used to be on Chili's.. taken down for copyright infringement I guess.

PG was always a favorite of mine.
One of the Yahoo Power Girl groups has some pictures by a guy named Joseph Mackie, who draws a really well-endowed Power Girl (see attachment).
-
Love the way the bullets bounce off her tits!

Great pics!
Here's another one from yahoo groups...

I've been catching rumor here and there that an early Power Girl artist, Wally Wood, drew Power Girl's breasts a little bigger every time she appeared as a joke until his editor caught on and told him not to go any bigger. I looked for quite a while for any pics of this but didn't find more than the regular fan renditions of her unusually large. If anyone has these somehow archived or accessable and can share them I'm sure we'd all love to see that.
-
Okay basically just bumping the thread but come on!
Who doesn't wanna see power get a little bigger every time you see her?
-
When you consider some of the adult comics - like "Sally Forth" - Wood worked on around the same time he originated Power Girl, I find it easy to believe this oft told story is true. Towards the time of his premature death Wood had worked on some REALLY sicko, hardcore stuff. I've seen it, but I don't have any examples in my collection. One of these days I'm going to learn how to screen pictures here!

Here's a page that give's power girl's timeline
and while I have see several references to Ward increasing her bust, it looks like he only dealt with the character from '76 - '77 (All Star Comics #58-65), and it looks like the last issue is the infamous one
Quote from link above:
Quote:
In issue #65 PG's boobs grow to mammoth proportions. No, I'm not going to include a pic, you perv. She demonstrates a weakness to kryptonite as Vandal Savage tries to drain her powers to revive his immortality. Note that S-S Kid saves her, carrying her off in true romantic hero style, while Superman battles Savage.
Cover of issue 65:

Here's a forum in which people talk about PG's bust and another

There were frequent discussions about Bart Sears treatment of PG's bust as well...

I've always been a big fan of Hughes... very clean line work, he almost takes a minimalist Matt Wagner like approach to his figures. And I'll never forget when I saw that cover of the Justice League America (around #34, if memory serves) where Fire is bending over to serve Blue Beetle and Booster Gold some cocktails. My god, the cleavage...
But as this thread is about Power Girl:

Thanks much for the help, MW - and there's some interesting stuff there - but I can't find anything by Joseph Mackie, like that amazing triptych posted by CandyeMan.
One great thing about almost all the versions of Power Girl: they accept her unabashedly as a large-, even huge-breasted heroine. And I like that.

I love that "classic" style. Like 50's retro styling, it is just so hot. Dont really know anybody who would dispute that clean lines in animation are the best, not such a big fan of some of the modern comics that arent so sharp.
Best Golden Age ever!

Yeah. I go for that too. Lord knows why, in real life iron-hard tits wouldn't be much fun. But in a cartoon it's a real turn-on.
Anyone remember this contest-winning post of mine from a year ago? I put in the bouncing bullets.

Still hoping to find more of Joseph Mackie's work: CandyeMan? Anyone?

I wish I could tell you. I belong to three, and I don't remember which one it came from. But if it wasn't the one MunchWolf mentioned, it's either http://groups.yahoo.com/group/powergirl/?yguid=132769422 or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PowergirlArt/?yguid=132769422 . Be sure to look in the Files sections, too -- some groups have plenty of PG art there that's not in the photo albums.
Actually, that last picture I "touched up" in Photoshop. The original looks like it was shot from a wall poster, taken at an odd angle. All I did was to "square it up" so that the proportions all look a little more realistic. So to speak.
If I come across the origin site again, I'll be sure to post it.
ADDENDUM: FWIW, Mackie has a new drawing in the "Power Girl Art" group, under Files > April 2005. I've attached a closeup of PG from that picture.
-
Thanks for replying, Candye Man. I had already searched those groups and found nothing. Judging from the messages, the Mackie pics you posted have been deleted. Sigh. I also gather that other people were trying to find a site that featured this artist, but in vain.
Oh well, it wasn't all wasted time: I really like Mackie's style, but I got some nice pics by other artists. Here's what I've done with a couple of them:

Unfortunately they depart pretty widely from the Power Girl theme.
Good job on fixing up that third pic in the MAckie triptych btw: her ass really looks great!

From previous posts I know there are a lot of Power Girl fans at this site. Well, I hope this isn't old news but I just found out there's a new limited series called "JSA Classified" coming out from DC next month that will finally tell the untold origin of everyone's favorite big busted superhero, or, as the promo says:"...eveyone's favorite female JUGGernaut..." (My emphasis)
Obviously, the events cronicaled in the old "Crisis" series make it unlikely that Power Girl is actually related to Superman, but no viable origin has ever been proposed for her. She was just...there, in the DC universe because she was so popular with artists and fans.
Art is by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti and the examples I saw look real good. Oh yes, ADAM HUGHES does an alternate cover!

Actually, she does have an origin, but it's pretty silly, IMO. She's from 50,000 years in the past, is an Atlantean, grand-daughter of Arion the Sorcerer. She was put in a dimension where time moves much slower to save her from being possessed by an evil being. Her memories of Krypton were implanted, and have since been proved false. All this is from the 1990 issue of Who's Who in The DC Universe, and I don't know if they've ret-conned her back story since.

They have, or at least are going to. They mentioned in a JSA a while back that Power girl's powers weren't magic based (i.e. given by Atlantian wizard) but physiological (more like superman's). I didn't read an explanation (though I did stop reading JSA)
Also kryptonite sometimes works on her and sometimes no.
Methinks that they might kill her off in the upcoming "Infinite Crisis". Just a hunch… course no one in DC has ever stayed dead thus far.
Y’know if I ever get stuck in a comic book world without superpowers, I think I’d run a funeral parlor. Get a lot of repeat business

What? Kryptonite works on her? WTF? Is there anything that shit can't kill?

Actually, the article in Who's Who says her powers are from a toughening of her body, not magic. The improvement in her physiology is caused by magic, but is purely physical, as I understand it. Of course, this is applying logic to the illogical. And her being affected by Kryptonite at all is completely illogical, unless it is just plain old radiation poisoning... which would explain how Lex Luthor could get cancer from it. I'm not going to go any further with this, as it would desend this thread into comic geekdoom.
-
We're trying to explain a universe where nobody ages. There are far more things to pick apart here (See OT Forum)
-
Yeah, I'd heard of that magical origin for Power Girl, but that happened back when I'd given up reading comics for a while and I always thought it was a kind of bogus explaination. Power Girl don't look a thing like Arion! I hope the new origin they come up with for her makes more sense. Of course, now it will have to be different from the new origin DC just cooked up for Supergirl.

Too much magic in the DCU these days. Granted, that's a good thing...anything that takes Superman down a notch.
-
Lol, yeah you've got a point. I mean, I remember reading somewhere of superman being real angry and fighting "with a power that would make the devil shiver" (or something like that).
I mean he's just an ALIEN who moved house in the universe, and now he's giving the DEVIL the willies?
-
Well, the man is super.
-
Yeah, people seem to forget that Superman isn't just vulnerable to Kryptonite. He can also get boned by magic or if he expends all his energy (ala Doomsday fight).
Out of interest - obviously he's like a normal man under the red sun and "super" under a yellow one. What about other suns?
-
Superman isan't vulnerable to magic, like he was under the Silver Age, he just doesn't have any more special protection against it than anyone of his physical and mental toughness doesn't. In the Silver Age, David Copperfield could have taken Superman with a few card tricks.

Torqumada
-
Of course, DC currently has the Spector going to war against ALL magic. Since they brought Hal Jordan back to life, the Spector has no human host to calm him down a bit. Now, the Adam's ex-wife, who fliped out and killed Mrs. Elongated Man, has become Eclipso and is influencing the Spector to bump off all of DCs magic characters. I would NOT want the Spector coming after me, I don't care how powerful I was.

Actually, Superman IS vulnerable to magic. He can be cut by Wonder Woman's sword or stabbed by the Spear of Destiny. If it were just a normal sword or spear, it wouldn't do him any harm.
BTW, to throw in my two cents, I think Power Girl's new revamped origin is going to tie into Supergirl's and take Kara back towards what she was Pre-Crisis.

But so would we. Like he said, he's NO MORE vulnerable to magic than us, that doesnt mean he's MORE vulnerable.

Well, I never claimed to be much of a speller. I did recognize it should have been Atom right after I submitted it. If Spector isn't right, why don't I just say the big ghost guy in the white and green who once had a bad habit of arrainging for the bad guys to get eaten alive for their sins

I just think it's funny because SPECTOR is the name of the evil organization headed by Ernst Stavro Blofeld with members Dr. No and Rosa Klebb in the James Bond movies.

My favorite Blofield was Donald Plesence, altho Telly Savalas was probably closer to Ian Fleming's idea of the character. And speaking of tits, Blofield always seemed to keep some nicely breasted women around, unfortunately, he had the bad habit of killing them on a whim.

Have you ever read a comic? 99% of all women drawn in comics are idealized figures which means that they have pretty big boobs. That goes for everyone starting with Lois Lane running through Mary Jane Watson-Parker and ending up at Wonder Woman, Power Girl, and Catwoman with a gold medal for Tarot and 3 Little Kittens.

Oh yeah! I remember this sketch. I used to know the address of the artist's website (loads of big-boobed superheroine pics), but I've since lost it. I've always liked his work.

You're link went to the page for emailing the artist.

Depends on what you're into, I guess. I dislike the manga-cartoony look, so to me, that's one of my least favorite PG pictures.
I much prefer something like this (attachment).

Just saw a copy of the new Power Girl mini-series from DC, the cover of which has been posted in this forum before. Sorry I can't remember the name of the artist (I read a friend's copy) but he does a GREAT job on PG, making her funny and sexy and huge busted as well. In fact, one sight gag has her saving a guy's life and then shows her from his perspective. The whole pannel is taken up by her tits! Hopefully (God, I hate that word) this story line will finally present a definate, credible origin for our girl. At the end of the book it was implied she might be from the future.

First of all, it's not a Power Girl mini-series. It's the first story arc of JSA: Classified. It has two different covers. One has the pictures that's my avatar. It's a painting of PG by Adam Hughes, who is known for drawing sexy women. The second cover is draw by the artist for the story, Amanda Conner, who also draws sexy, but more believable women.
The first issue was really, pretty good. It was pretty funny, but also tugged on the heartstrings because it really made you feel for PG. There are several references to her bust. First, she is undergoing tests done by Dr. Mid-Nite to determine why she's been having power fluctuations (espcially heat vision that seems to pop out of nowhere.) Doc can't find anything, but suggests that Kara undergo hypnosis to recover her memory and origins. She says she doesn't want to because, and I'm paraphrasing, "Do I look like I have any problems Doc?" While she's saying this, you get a full-frontal shot of her in all her pulchritudinal glory. I also forgot to mention that during this scene, she changes from a sports bra and bicycle shorts to her costume.
Another scene has her reminiscing about how someone asked her why she doesn't wear a mask. Her response? Noone looks at my face anyway.
Also, she saves a guy and she's towering over him and says to him, something like, "Could you look me in the eyes?"
This arc is supposed to reveal her origins. I think it's going to be tied in with Supergirl somehow. My current theory is that she's actually the Supergirl that's from the same universe as the Crime Syndacite of America, which means she's either from Earth-2, or Earth-3, depending on your POV (YMMV.)
This story arc is 4 issues.
BTW, to digress a moment, Amanda Conner also did the art on a comic called The Pro, which is one of the funniest comics I've ever read. It's about a prostitute who gets superpowers.

Dunno what issue. It's on the Power Girl site linked to earlier in the thread, on the page detailing PG's history.

While looking for PG pictures on the 'net, I came across this website. Hyper Jen
It seems to be a woman who buys comic art that feature big breasted artists and heroes. The other half of the page, are sketches and such of Hyper Jen, a big busted woman drawn by myriad of artists. This woman doesn't really reveal to much of herself, but I've found her pictures fascinating so far.

Maybe it sold out where you looked, but that title JUST shipped out on July 20 (Wed). If you have a comic book store in your area, you SHOULD be able to special order it if it really isn't available. Actually, I did know it wasn't a Power Girl mini series, but I couldn't remember if it was a JLA or JSA title, so I just said PG mini.
Speaking of "The Pro," Amanda's art has gotten a lot better since she drew that graphic novel. All in all, I liked "The Pro," but I thought the ending stinked! {SPOILER ALERT}
There was no reason at all for the prostitute to die at the end except to prove how much better a person she was than the other heroes. The Superman clone in the story who followed her to the edge of space could have protected her from the bomb. At most, she might have lost a few fingers. I even brought up the subject to one of the creaters of the comic at Wizzard Con last year and he was quite dismissive. Very disappointing.

Hey, Click! Why don't you ask your comic shop is they have any issues of the new "Shana the She-Devil" left? Talk about a well drawn rack!
BTW, a local comics store had Frank Cho for a visit recently and I got to question him about "Shana" and his love of big titted females. One of the most interesting things I found out about him is his lack of respect for formal art education, at least, as far as comic book artists go. He thinks art schools put too much emphasis on modern art and none on graphic art. He said the best thing anyone who wants to draw comics can do is -- draw, and draw a lot. I'd always thought classically trained artists had an advantage, but he didn't agree.

Speaking of Adam Huges, I just attended a lecture he gave at the Wizzard Con in Chicago. It was pretty neat, even though it was a spur of the moment thing and he didn't have any prepared notes or slides. I really enjoyed his tips on perspective and vanishing points, but that's not why you are reading this, is it?
Mr. Huges said he discovered he had a facility for drawing outstanding women at an early age and was drawing comics for Penthouse when he was still in his teens. He said he drew Power Girl as big as he could get away with as a tribute to Wally Wood, whome he discribed as an "old timer" who always had a brush in one hand and a cigarette or a glass of Jack in the other. And he said the story about Wood making PG bigger every issue until an editor complained was absolutely true. Said it went on for nine or more issues.
Oh, yes, he said he HAS taken a gander at the BEA after hearing that his drawing of PG was so popular here. So, Mr. Huges, if you are reading, hello from Bluto! And please don't kill me for any mistakes, I didn't take notes.

This artist's public name is Shade and he used to have a website with that image called Darkstorm Graphix.com (sadly, now gone when I checked, yesterday).
As for Adam Hughes, ..I'm glad the BEA has entered his radar, but I'd like to point out that he is admired here for ALL his work, not just with PG!

Oh man, that's a shame. I even had him listed, as Scott Jones, due to there being a hentai style artist named Shade I encountered first. I used to check out the site every once in a while, but you know how it is, so many websites, so little time...
After a quick google search, it looks like he's still active a little online. He has a Deviantart site here:

Also, there is some art of his hosted here: Scott Jones page

The only reason I didn't give his name out is that he doesn't do a lot of requests any more. He does some occassionally, but they're usually just sketches on the low end of the cost spectrum. I didn't intend any offense by not giving the name.

Read the latest issue of "Supergirl" comic book today. She and Powergirl are two different people, but are having similar difficulties figuring out just where the hell they come from. The JSA are fighting Solomon Grundy, while, in the background, Supergirl is having some girl talk with Star Spangeled Girl who notes that Supergirl and Powergirl are very much alike, "Well, except for the bra size."
(OK, that wasn't a direct quote, I don't own the comic, but it was the gist of the comment.)

I wonder if any of the writers will ever have her say she intended that affect on guys intentionally. If she didn't want that affect, she shouldn't have cut that oval out of her costume. I can't see where she had someone else make the suit, or couldn't modify it if she didn't like it.
Which is cool, acknowledged in the comics or not, it's nice to see a superheroine who must enjoy being ogled to an extent, instead of all the ones who are unhappy with having guys leer at them while they scamper around with their bodacious bods in skin-tight, skimpy outfits...

Yep, this is the exact page I was talking about back at the start of this thread. As far as Power Girl's rather revealing costume, I don't think she made it herself and she knows what effect it has on men. But her attitude is "What the fuck? They're going to stare anyway. Men are such boys after all!" She probably also doesn't change it because it's a reminder of her origins, which DC has royaly fucked up and are even now trying to strighten out. The point at first was to make a difference between her and Supergirl, who was always depicted as such a virgin goody two-shoes only Mary Marvel was sweeter. The whole point of Power Girl was to put a little spice into the comics.

Y'know, that page is terribly arousing.

Used to be, Power Girl was depicted as getting pissed off when people noticed her breasts.
So this is quite a transformation, and one that I like.

That's a nice drawing and a good joke. However, it may not be a joke after all. In the latest JSA Classified, PG says she left that hole in the front of her costume (first time I've heard that she actually made it herself) since she was imitating Superman, but didn't think she deserved to use the famous "S" symbol until she was worthy. The implication I get is that by the time this story is over, she will have found a symbol to fill in the hole. That would be awful!

I didn't necessarily infer that she would fill in the whole by the end of the story.
On the other hand, I thought that was a really cool explanation and a very emotional scene.
-
Found out from my friend, Comicbookcole, that PG has already had at least one different, much more modest, costume she used to wear in the JSA comic. As I don't normally read that comic, I missed it.
Also, according to the Comic Buyers Guide website, DC has already gone into a third printing of JSA Classified #1 and a second printing of #2, which was just released last Weds. That kind of gives you an idea of how popular PG really is.
-
Quote:

From what I understand after talking to artists at Comic-con, she is probably the #1 most requested character for commissions. I believe it, she's one mainstream character that's been allowed to just ooze sex-appeal over the years and even during some rather conservative times for comics. Plus she wears buckaneer boots, that's gotta be part of it too...
-
By Comic-Con I assume you're talking about San Diego?
Yeah, love those booths, they're so retro. I wonder if she won them off the Martian Manhunter in a game of strip poker?

Call me picky, but I kind of don't like the white vertical piping that they've added to her costume. Power Girl has lots of curves, and all those straight lines do nothing but detract from those curves.

The cover to Supergirl #8.
-
That's a great picture, and it's already made its way into some of the Power Girl groups.
Purely because I just got a new scanner and I needed a good reason to use it, here is what I believe to be a previously-unpublished-on-the-web picture of PG from her Justice League Europe days.
In case you're curious, that's a part of Elongated Man also in the picture. They and a number of other JLE members are being held in the giant hand of some kind of Mickey Mouse figure.
You kinda had to be there.

Which is pretty surprising for the following reasons:
1) I don’t read many comics.
2) When I do, they almost certainly have nothing to do with super heroes.
3) It’s rare that I obsess over fictitious women.
However, upon reflection, I’d have to say that Power Girl is something of an ideal woman. She’s strong-willed, confident, and has a sense of humor about her “natural endowments” (by which I mean the power girls themselves). She also has short hair and a very cute face. I did mention she has a monstrous rack as well, right? Well, I suppose there's little harm in a bit of fantasy now and again.
Fellow Power Girl lovers, sound off!

Usually Power Girl is pretty modest about her assets, and attention gets the usual gags of guys making comments and her blowing them off.
Which begs a question; why does her costume have a peek-a-boo keyhole?
-

She actually explains that. She originally thought she was the cousin of Kal-el (Superman), but felt she was unworthy to wear the S shield that usually denotes those of the Superman family (Superman, Supergirl, Suberboy, Steel). So, until she felt worthy of wearing the shield, she has left a hole in her costume. Hopefully that will be a long time coming.

Although I admit to buying comics with Powergirl in them mainly for her boobs, I think it was a bad idea to make it "fact" that she has big breasts, because different artists draw characters different ways, I have seen plenty of near flat chested versions of Powergirl, and I hate it when people impose a certain version of a character on artists.
I also think the idea that Powergirl was going to sew something over the hole was another stupid idea(which will be forgotten by later writers and possibly retconned), I think that since Powergirl was always a character who was associated with feminism, it makes sense that her breasts be her chest logo.
There are two trade paperbacks coming out with important appearances by good ol' Kara..... http://www.dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=5316
http://www.dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=5565
I'll be buying the second one, it's her first appearances and the all infamous Wally Wood "bigger and bigger" issues. I looking forward to see if he ever really did draw them that big.
-
I stumbled across this image while perusing the CAC. I’m sure people here can appreciate this unique interpretation of Power Girl...

The piece was credited as: “Shade's pencils and colorist Saigonradio.” Is Shade well known here? Does anyone know where one could find more of his works?
-
The brown hair?
-
Obviously part of her secret identity
-
Yeah, the brown hair kind of takes away from the effect. Power Girl was created by the late and VERY perverted Wally Wood. He tried to make her breasts as large as he could get away with. Any artist who draws her today should follow the dictates of her creator and do the same. Of course, back when she first started comics weren't nearly as willing to go to the sexual edge as they are today, so while her breasts were the biggest around, no one made any comments about them, either on the pages of the comics themselves or in the editorial pages. Nowdays, PG's boobs are fair game and artists and writers are making the most of them, much to our delight!
Bluto
-
From most accounts he didn't just draw her big, he progressively drew her bigger and bigger every issue, seeing exactley what he could get away with. There's supposed to be one issue where he even drew her breasts a little bigger every panel, making her quite enormous by the end of the comic.
-
Somewhere I have a post giving analysis of this
-Munch "Here it is" Wolf
-
I don't know about the bigger every pannel business, but it was confirmed to me at last year's Wizard Con in Chicago that Wood did, indeed, make her boobs bigger every issue until DC management finally caught on to what he was doing. Having bought and read comic books since the mid 50s, I was right there when those issues came out. My friends and I all noticed what happening with PG, but nothing was ever mentioned about it in the comics themselves - no boob jokes, no sidewise glances, no nothing, which in itself was funny because you KNEW the other heros had to notice her "outstanding development".
Bluto
-
Power girl is a fun character... but they kind of make a bit too much of her breasts. No one ever goes "Hey Superman, you have an incredibly massive amount of muscle!"
But then, that's comics for you and there are far worse fates in comics for female characters than to be big boobed cheesecake.
-
welcome to the Powergirl Obsession Club ( haha )

)
usually i am a Supergirl fan myself ( still waiting for someone to come up with an idea for a story with Supergirl that gives her enourmous boobies that tears her costume to shreds and have her show her true side ) but when Powergirl came into the scene with the JSA, it was a breathe of boobie air as her boobs were the main attraction instead of the other characters
-
bwaahhhh!
I'm sounding off...

This can also be seen in my (fantastic) Lacey Chabert Anyone? Thread in the morph requests section.

In one of the recent comics books. they decide to try and figure out her origin agian while someone is making her see things that aren't there. She goes to the daily planet building hoping to talk to superman and Jimmie olsen comes out and talks to her. She predicts exactly when he will take a peek. I'm sorry I dont know exactly which one. I dont have access to my comics yet. I will try and tell you guys which comics, so someone else can get a hold of it. i cant scan.

I have the issue your talking about its JSA classified, not sure of the issue number. But it has jimmy and her sitting outside on top of the Planet building and its like 3 panels of no dialog and each one has him looking closer and closer before she says something. Ill scan it and post the page later today.

(For that matter, I believe Power Girl has been shown to have an on-and-off vulnerability to Kryptonite. Is that just the green variety, or is red included too?)

Ok it was Jsa classified #2. On #1 at the very beginning she is also seeing the doctor of the group to see what is going on with her and in the background she is wearing a small tanktop, later she changes right in front of him. She just loves to she off her assets

If he was blind how did he give her the check up? Why did he turn his back when she did take off her close? How did he know she was taking off her close? He isnt blind in the darkness. that's why he wears dark shades and before anybody corrects me on my logic. Its DC I just tell it like it is.
-
Dr. McNiter is blind in the same way Daredevil is blind: he has super senses that more than make up for his lack of vision. In many ways he can see better than any ordinary human (he was the one who found the evidence that the Atom's ex-wife killed Sue Dibney), but standing naked in front of him isn't the same as standing naked in front of you or I. After all, he IS a doctor and I mean a medical doctor.

I saw this woman at the Wizard Con, but I was in a hurry and, although I did have a cheap camera, I didn't take her picture:( All I can say is, while her boobs were suitably big, they were rather sofer than those of Superman's cousin and were kind of marshmallowie in that very tight top.

I don't know how many folks around here follow comic book news, but DC recently unveiled their re-design of Power Girl (who was nearly axed from DC continuity altogether during the "New 52" relaunch).
The new design is... well... here's a comparison. Somehow I had a feeling they'd pull something like this... >_>;

I haven't followed the changes to the DC comics since the new 52, but it's not that she was downsized exactly- they gave her a generic body. Most comics draw almost all of the women the same height and shape, and most of the men the same height and shape.

This is a younger version of Powergirl. Spoilers ahead!
She's going to come across some pink kryptonite that Lex Luthor was tinkering with and she'll get her power cleavage back. :)
-
They turn amanda waller into halle berry, harley quinn into a clown whore and they have to take power girl's cleavage away???
DC Comics is on some stupid shit right now...
Don't forget the ditzification of Starfire. They hit poor Kori so hard with the Bimbo Hammer I'm surprised they didn't dislodge any teeth. >_>;
I haven't followed the changes to the DC comics since the new 52, but it's not that she was downsized exactly- they gave her a generic body. Most comics draw almost all of the women the same height and shape, and most of the men the same height and shape.
As I understand it, DC is trying to make all the Kryptonian heroes (Superman, Superboy, Supergirl and Power Girl) look very similar to one another, in order to distinguish them from other DC superheroes (because comic nerds are apparently all as dumb as a bag of rocks and couldn't tell their arse from their elbow if you drew a crack on their elbow). There does seem to be a slight decrease in bust-size, though this could be due to a slimming effect produced by the angle of the image and the vertical lines in her costume.
Regardless, I much prefer her old design. Cleavage window notwithstanding, her old costume seemed a lot more distinctive and striking. The lop-sided, over-the-shoulder cape always struck me as quite unique, and the bob-cut hairstyle was a lot more appropriate than the 80s music-video coiffure the new version is sporting. For someone who spends their days zooming about the city like a fighter jet, beating the bolts out of giant robots, something a bit simpler and less hairspray intensive would seem like the natural choice. Granted, I'm hardly unbiased, as I have a marked weakness for girls with that hairstyle.
What really irks me though is that her new costume isn't really a new design at all. I did some digging, and it's basically a ripoff of the one worn by the Eradicator (one of the many Superman clones who cropped up during the Death of Superman arc). Granted, given the whole 'unified appearance aesthetic' that DC is pushing with the Kryptonians, I suppose I shouldn't be all that surprised.
EDIT: I stand corrected. The new Power Girl outfit is a near carbon-copy of the one from Alan Moore's Supreme. Right down to the color-scheme, gold bracers and bare arms.

Actually Supreme was created by Rob Liefeld. As a tribute to Superman, when Alan Moore took over as writer with issue #41 he took that idea and turned him into a carbon copy of silver age Superman. And this new suit looks a lot like the JLI era one. With the white on gold and no boob window, but with a cape.

CallMePo (http://callmepo.deviantart.com/) of DeviantART recently posted his own re-design of Power Girl, incorporating elements of both the new and old costumes, as well as aesthetic touches inspired by what we apparently know of the Kryptonian alphabet. The result is rather impressive, and clearly had a lot more thought and effort put into it than DC's version.
You can find his full explanation of his re-design here (http://callmepo.deviantart.com/art/Power-Girl-redesign-for-DC-s-52-284751020).

I am not pleased with this. PG may not have always had the cleavage window, but she's ALWAYS had one of the most prominent busts in comics... now she looks like every other run-of-the-mill heroine out there - that is to say, entirely forgettable now
-
On the upside, Batman books are well worth the read... Even if Harley Quinn looks more like her current Arkham Asylum/City game counterpart.
-
Now i lost all interest i had in her :(

I'll probably take a look at the comic when it hits stores, if only to see how badly they've mangled the character, but unless the promotional images I'm seeing are horribly misleading, I doubt I'm going to find anything that's going to redeem it in my eyes.
I can't help but recall a quote from one former DC writer, who described up the New 52 re-launch as "re-shuffling the deck furniture on the Titanic". >_>;

Isn't all of this happening because Disney bought DC Comics? (Aka: The Disneyification of the DC Comics, generic bodies and costumes save money)

Isn't all of this happening because Disney bought DC Comics? (Aka: The Disneyification of the DC Comics, generic bodies and costumes save money)
You're thinking of Marvel. Disney bought Marvel comics about a year or so ago, though very little has actually changed. You'd actually be surprised to learn just how many companies Disney owns, partly because they're smart enough to leave the successful ones well enough alone and let them do their thing, while reaping the benefits of any success they enjoy.
DC's current decline is due at least in part to the machinations of Dan DiDio, who is largely to blame for the whole New 52 re-launch, as well as the desecration of many of the cherished DC females that resulted from it. That and the fact that they recently brought Rob Liefeld into the fold as a writer/artist, despite his rather... checkered track record...>.>;

DC has been part of Time-Warner (under it's various corporate predecessors) since 1969. And Disney has stayed out of Marvel's business.
But really having read comics with Powergirl in them from way back. She's only been epically busty for the last 10-15 years, which also the amount of time she's had the boob window costume.
-
saw this on a comic book based forum :'(
-
Oh, come on, this can easily be changed with different artists' interpretation. I'm not to worried. Her "classic look" will be around before you know it. ;D
-
I smell a troll :)
No, not a troll, I just got DC confused with Marvel is all.
-
I'm not a fan of the stripper duds worn by the vast majority of female comic book heroines, it always seemed like obnoxious fanboy service that really detracted from my enjoyment of the material. But Power Girl always had a certain brassiness that made the boob window seem in-character. Don't get me wrong: I'm glad the comic industry is getting the message, but I think they've chosen exactly the wrong time to suddenly start exploring female superhero modesty. I think this issue of Gutters says it best...

The most amazing PG cosplay that I've seen. More to come

Reading this thread I'm amazed Michelle Marsh didn't pose and flex as Power Girl. She was the blonde with the large cleavage window in tight white shirt down to a T.

I have seen both these ladies in person (Vegas as Rule 63 Captain Cold, Ivy as Rule 63 Michael Myers), but not in this garb. If I were in the same room with them both in those costumes, I might've died on the spot.

Not that I'm complaining, but I sometimes think some of these girls doing the PG cosplay wear a size too small enhancing (a.k.a. push-up) bra. so things get more pushed out the "boob window". Case in point: this latest PG pic. ::) :-\

Oh yeah, I guess that one could be considered a Powergirl cosplay by Beshine. Just we the viewer aren't able to see the cape, gold fastener or the rest of the onesie cause her boobs are obscuring it all, nice! The boob window is there at least....yes, Beshine nailed her Powergirl look. :D

I never have been drawn to DC. When I was very young I had access to a huge collection of comics that my uncles had as boys all heaped together in a big box. They were mostly silver age DC titles, some random comics, and just a few Marvel items from the late 60s and very early 70s. Even then I could tell I preferred the Marvel stories and characters.
The collection ended just a few years before Power Girl showed up in DC so I never was aware of her as a character until very recently, like well into the 2000s. I still do not like the character and I find her personality annoying and not very interesting. Also, yet another Superman-like character just does nothing for me, as I had been exposed to all those alternate versions in that box of comics.
I did some digging and could not find any third party confirmation about the drawing Power Girl progressively bigger, either in a single comic or over multiple comics. The only sources all appear to copy the story from each other and none of them are dated prior to the New 52 "reset" (which I had to look up too) on or around 2011.
Also, 2013 appears to be the start of the biggest emphasis of Power Girls chest both in the comics and out in the fan-base. Something appears to have happened that year that got everyone stirred up and parody and direct comments about her frontage became commonplace. As there is a delay between the drawing and printing of the comics, something was going on at DC in 2012 regarding what was going to be done with her and the emphasis on the bust must have been a topic even then.
I did locate the fan base determined largest depiction of her in-comic, that is not a fan generated image, and it hits right at that 2013 date. I will say that she is large, like bigger than her head big in the cover art. This particular comic has been noted as having not only the largest depiction on the cover, but also within the pages of the comic, something that issues with slightly more busty covers do not continue.
-
I've got several photomanips of actresses or models shopped to be in Power Girl's costume, but I'd never post one here. For some reason, the artists never picked girls who are busty enough! :(

You know we all have to thank Wally Wood, who first drew "Power Girl" for DC, drawing her as relatively busty, with a figure and build conforming in appearance to other comic book women at that time. Later Wood was was convinced the editors were not paying any attention to anything he did, so the story goes as told be Wood's inker, that each issue Wood would then draw PG with a slightly larger bust, until after seven or eight issues someone finally said, "Hey, what's with the tits?" Which was when it stopped.
Later artist's reduced her bust, portraying PG as having a highly athletic but slender physique. Then for "Justice League Europe" artist Bart Sears restored her bust. In his limited series "Kingdom Come", Alex Ross later drew her as the older "Power Woman" with a larger bust and a heavily, muscled physic, as if she was a female bodybuilder.
Consistently, artists depict Kara is as a large breasted young woman, most recognized for her shapely curves, who does not have a problem wearing a costume that shows it off. Once when another woman asked about her costume, she replied, "It shows what I am, female and healthy. If men want to degrade themselves by staring, that's their problem, I'm not going to apologize for it."
In another instance, Kara told Superman, who asked about her cleavage window, "The first time I made this costume, I wanted to have a symbol, like you do. I just couldn't think of anything, so I left the hole. I thought eventually, I'd figure it out. So far I still haven't come up with an idea to replace it."
So thanks to Wally Wood, and a few other artists, boob-loving guys have the Power Girl we've all come to love and enjoy, in both the comics, and at conventions when cos-players dress up as her. 8)
