Many (probably nearly all) members are stymied by the login breakdown. titmouse found a way to get around this:
Go to forum.bearchive.com/chat;
You will reach a page labelled "AJAX chat", asking you to log in;
Log in as usual, and go to the forum.
Note: once logged in, you may need to erase "chat" from the address bar in order to get to the forum -- or retype forum.bearchive.com as URL
There was a block on attachments as well: this seems to be fixed now (knock on wood).

"I've been away for so long (so long), I've been away for so long (so long), I've let you go for so long, it's a nice day to....start again"

That worked! Thank you sir
-
Indeed!
Thank you, titmouse & Professor!

im kind of currious as to why we have two log in servers...

Actually, I think it is 3; one for the chat, one for the forum, and another for the general site.

Thank you!
Think this needs to be stickied for a time

I love that song! (https://www.youtube.com/embed/AAZQaYKZMTI) :)

Hey Prof! Kudos to titmouse and you! I thought it was just me and was wondering who I'd offended and how to apologize, haha.
-
Thank you!
Think this needs to be stickied for a time
I originally stickied it, but then I recalled my experience with the morph contest, which showed that many people failed to notice a message in the greyed-out stickied area. I myself do not often pay attention to that area, since I'm more interested in the most recent posts. I suspect that most people are similar. So I unpinned it, depending on other posts, including mine, to keep it on the first page.

In that case......... bump
-
I can obviously log in, but have 2 issues: 1) I'm unable to log OUT, and 2) while I'm able to post pics, a small gif keeps getting rejected. I even tried an old gif I'd successfully posted months ago as a test, and that, too, was rejected. Anyone else having these issues or know any solutions?
-
Yeah, Charade and I share a desktop at home, and we couldn’t log her off so that I could log in. I’ve been doing all my posting on the phone so far.
-
Go to forum.bearchive.com/chat;
Since the problem started a week ago, you have to wonder just how hard they are trying to fix it; most sites would sort the problem in hours, not days.
Bump..... for all those regulars that have been frustrated by the problem.

I have found that simply leaving the forum page results in logging out, however, when assessing the login page normally, it still shows you as logged in, so you are back to the Go to forum.bearchive.com/chat;
-
As I posted in site issues, I was able to log in through the actual login screen tonight. Unfortunately, now I can't post attachments again. >:( :(
-
^ Ditto. :(
-
Still unable to login, actually, cannot log out on the regular screen and continuing to use titmouse patch 101.
-
Had login problems too, but the guys in the background did fix it. Thank you all for doing such great work.
-
was able to log into the the regular log in page.
-
attachments seem to be working for me... as you can see from mrs rio up there
-
^ Yes, yesterday I was finally able to log in and after several attempts I was able to put attachments BUT the attachments were less than 1000 KB otherwise it won't work. Supposedly they can be up to 3072 KB but anything over 1000 KB was bounced off. There are still problems with the site. :P
-
Close my browser, open and click on BEA, and I am still logged on.
Close my browser, restart computer, click on BEA, and I am still logged on.
That aspect is working better than ever; no need to logon anymore?
-
^ Not in my case. I still need to log back in after leaving the site. I use Microsoft Edge. Do you think that it matters what system you use ? ???
-
Seems to be working okay again now. I didn't have trouble on pc but couldn't log in via mobile or tablet. But I can again now.
-
I had to login from scratch when I came in today, but the login screen still worked fine. For me, that's the same behaviour it had before the fun started.
-
Still not back to normal, but it looks like most have access.

This place has always been a little buggy since I joined in 2003 after lurking from 2001. I can recall, including with the last recent hullaballoo, 5 major site melt downs and multiple small annoyances since that time. It ain't strong like the Rock of Gibraltar, that's for sure. Why do I come back ? Well, for the breasts of course but more importantly, believe it or not, the online friendships with several forum members here. I've met a few in real life, and I would like to meet more, but haven't been able due to circumstances and geographic distance. C'est la vie. I just hope they fix the attachment limit soon and perhaps upgraded to.... 10,000 KB. There could be so much better stuff put in here. :)
-
I still remember the meltdown back before you joined, sol. My profile says I joined in 2003, but I actually joined a couple of years before that, then the forum melted down and I had to rejoin. I lost probably close to 2000 posts then. >:( :(
So, thankfully, this one seems to be a fairly minor meltdown. We haven't lost any posts that I can see, none of us have to re-do our memberships. Hopefully, they'll fix the attachment size thing. By now, most of us long timers should almost be used to having the forum eat itself every few years. :P

Such is life on long-time forums. Support for the back-end software expires, you have to upgrade said software, the folks who set it all up last time are no longer available to fix the problems they inadvertently caused... things like that. I agree that this isn't a major glitch... merely an annoyance.

Things are closer to normal now. A strange quirk, though: I can login in normally, and I get the page pictured below -- but there is no link to access the forum ??? :-X. As I said earlier, the forum can then be reached by retyping "forum.bearchive.com" and the login is still in effect: but...wtf? ???
µ
-
^ Yeah, I've got a similar quirk now. Before the latest, when I signed into the forum I would be directed immediately to the forum. Now I go to a similar page and I have to click on the forum link and then I go to the forum. Not a big deal but it is an extra step. :P

Hmm: but as you can see from the screencap I uploaded, I don't get a forum link. Maybe they discriminate against moderators :-\ Could you please upload a screencap of that page you get with the forum link, so I can see what I'm missing?
µ
-
Much like you, I have never had a link from the sign in page, but then clicked on my browser link bar to the general discussion page.
-
I haven't checked every thread, but has anyone been able to post a gif? I tried and failed, then tried one I'd successfully posted a few months ago and that, too, was rejected. And still can't log out, although I'm intermittently being logged out without trying.
-
I haven't even tried posting gifs, jimmarg, because the ones I made up are only below the old 3 mB limit, not the new 2 mB limit. Is your gif less than 2 mB?
-

No, it was larger. Was not aware of the new limit. Hmmm...? Smaller is better? Seems to go against the general BEA principle. :)
-
I've just worked out the limit to 2 mB because I've seen files up to 1.83 mB posted so far, but 2.2 failed.
Has anyone been able to contact the admins or the owner to inquire if the change in the limit is purposeful or accidental?
If it's purposeful, I sure would like it if they changed the wording of the posting limit notice.
-
This is the largest I can post, it's 2.1 MB (2095 KB).
I'll probably sticky this soon.

Just thought I'd chime in, now that I can, that I had to create a new registration with a slightly different name. No mater the attempted workaround, I could not log in.
-
Anyone having log in issues again the same trick above works log in through the chat interface rather than the main.. Oh and if anyone in the US needs an IT monkey... I just lost my fucking job today
-
Yes, needing to do this. Normal login returns an authentication error. Started within the last 3 days
-
They may have it fixed, I dunno. I'm able to login for the first time in 4 days.

Sorry to hear that, man. Take a day to breathe, then get your profile up on Dice or Fiverr or PeoplePerHour. Good luck!
-
My sympathies too, titmouse. I hope you have good luck in finding another job. :(

So sorry to hear about your job Titmouse.
I wanted to reply to a person in the real
life section but had log in probs a few weeks
ago. :(
Yesterday Nim was able to log in. Today he
also got an authentication error. :-[ It does
seems to be going around. Who knows I may
be next. :o
We send everyone bunny hugs and in case
this is a sign of things to come do take care
of yourselves. :-* :-X

Hope they get things working again.

It took a few attempts and an intervention by a BEA webmaster but my login appears to be functional again. It no longer returns the authentication error however, it does report a username or password mismatch sporadically. If I manually retype both it takes a second, almost like the system is saying, "OH, that's what you said... sorry" and then logs me in.
From what I can tell the system is more sluggish in all things; login, browsing, search, image import, posting, uploads, etc. Not badly so, just enough to notice.
Thanks to whomever for the assist getting my account back to "nearly there."
-
Can confirm the Authentication error on my desktop and phone.
Laptop, as always, remains in "Permalog" mode, so I can post this.
-
Had this authentication error again on my mobil device all week long since Tuesday. Now this is the first time it worked.
