Forum running incredibly slowly.
« on: October 07, 2020, 01:12:53 PM »
Takes several minutes just to load a single page. Been like this at least a week now. Serious issue.

I'm seeing the same thing. Nothing seems to ever time out, but every page, and every image on every page, takes a minute or so to load.

As of 9 October 2020, it takes two minutes dead to load a forum page from a location in Greece, more if there are images.

It feels a bit like the Mary Celeste...

I timed the opening, log in, navigation, and post reply open window time and it took me 16 minutes to get this far. That works out to about 100 times slower than normal.

It has been over 2 weeks now; first no attachments, then slow, then offline, then login problems, then slow again.  If someone is actually working to fix the forum, their IT skills leave much to be desired.  Just getting to the BEA and clicking to read what has been posted on a single thread can take 10 minutes, which is far slower than my first 14.4 modem, so the future of this site is in question; people will find others.

Agreed. I'm a Botcomics subscriber and outside of this forum on the site it is running fine but if this forum doesn't straighten out and fly right soon, I might just cancel the whole shebang. While I've only personally met few BEA members, I have made some friends here like Eliza/Charade, Shadowmuse, Bombayduk and others who are friendly to me on this forum. I enjoy their entries yet they haven't made, or made very few, posts in the forum in the last couple of weeks and it is like being cut off from friends.  :( I'm losing patience since the owner(s) doesn't keep/give any appraisal of what is going on or a progress report. He/She does have our emails so why not send a mass email(s) to the forum members and just let us know what is going on and a ETA of when things will go back to normal. I don't think I'm being unreasonable.

I agree with you 100%, Sol.  The forum is running very slightly faster for me than yesterday, but just checking out a few threads took me more than an hour.  Also, I can't get any of the pictures to expand to their full size at all.  I noticed very few pictures had more than one or two views as well, so there are very few people looking through them.

I'm really starting to worry this is going to be the death of the forum.   :( :( :(

I apologize in advance if I post duplicate pictures in any of the picture threads I deal in.  My MO in getting pictures of one girl is to rip her Instagram.  That ends up with me having up to 2000 pics of her.  I've tried almost half a dozen duplicate finder programs, and none of them find all of the duplicates I inevitably end up with.

Thanks, Sol; I had imagined the BEA would be a place of camaraderie since we all share a particular interest, but like so much of social media, anonymity allows people to say things they would never say to your face, thus no matter how faithful you remain to the subject, there are those that have no tolerance for whatever obscure reason; I don't have to agree with everything posted, but I do have the tolerance to not object to every post.  So friends are not as plentiful here as they once were 20 years ago.

I have no interest in waiting 5 minutes to see what someone posted on a thread and have not posted myself since the day this problem started weeks ago; clearly, the vast majority are doing the same.  Soon people will stop coming and move on and I suspect many have already done so.  I forget the owners name, but I imagine he understands the old business proverb that is takes 6x the effort to regain a customer as it does to retain him, so the only rationale conclusion is that he no longer cares about the forum, which is a shame because it introduced the world to huge breasted girls like no other.  Forums run on existing programs just like your computer, and just like your computer, there are programs designed to perform maintenance and fix broken data (how a binary system gets "broken" is bye me), but this isn't 1994, I don't use a 14.4 modem, and when things go wrong, I don't have to deletetree my drive and reload Windows 3.11.  That said, just simply reloading the program should have been sufficient and easy for the IT guy, because all the posts should be on a separate drive, at least that is the way every business does it, and after starting over far too many times, realized this is the way to address home computers; one drive for the OS, one for storage.  Of course, today, the smart people are putting their OS on a cloud to avoid problems; I'm not there yet.  I remain somewhat optimistic, thought given the length of time, I am beginning to have doubts about the future of the BEA forum.

Doubts?

It's obvious that Botcomics, or whoever owns BEA, have no interest in spending any time on it, probably because it is not a revenue generator.
If that was not the case, they would have surely said something by now.

Either that or they are completely incompetent.

It's 2020, you can get a TLS certificate for free, and yet BEA still does not support HTTPS.

The only way for BEA to have a future is to be owned by somebody who gives a damn about it.

Why has the forum become basically unusable and almost unvisitable? It takes... wow, 5 minutes to get here after a click, and... yawn, another 5 minutes to open up any thread, and if I click on an image that's, going to take a nap, another 5 minutes for the pic to appear.

And when I click to post this, will it time out?

My theory is that we're being given a creative option, like rather than look at a photo here of, say, Hitomi Tanaka, in that same amount of time I could shop for and buy a sailboat, then sail to Japan and maybe be lucky enough to run into her in person. Am I onto something or... ?
