Tarzan was in Africa and there never were any Wooly Mammoths in Africa. Also, Burroughs's classic was set in the 19th century Victorian era.

Tarzan has been to Pellucidar, in the center of the Earth, where there are many prehistoric animals.  I don't think Mammoths are mentioned, but it's possible.

Good point about the mammoths; as for time period, you can’t tell what the time period is here any more than you could in a jungle setting in Tarzan.
