Browser 'wars'
« on: December 04, 2022, 05:56:10 AM »
So, I recently found out that Edge is now better than Chrome. I heard, haven't tested that Opera GX might be slightly better still. Firefox I'm not a big fan of but we may all need it in the near future when the adblock features of chromium based browsers go byebye.

For the last decade or so I've been telling people to just get chrome because IE/Edge and similar options were so trash. My world is shooketh!

IIRC Edge is based on the Chromium codebase, so it's not that surprising.

Good riddance to "Internet Exploder" :)

Since moving completely to the Mac OS X operating system, I have been using separate browsers for separate kinds of things. For instance, I only use Mozilla Firefox for viewing the BEA Forum and other related sites. Google Chrome is strictly for work related activities. I use Apple Safari as a catch-all browser; it's not as good as FF or Chrome have been but at least it's there.

I haven't used Opera in many many years, but I may have to try it again.

I've a similar experience with firefox. It's not as featureheavy or stable as the chromium-based browsers. But it is much more privacy-compliant

I use Palemoon a lot - slightly different browser engine to Firefox. Not as quick, but we need some variety in browsers.   I've also used SeaMonkey again recently.

Wow, I can't remember the last time I heard of someone using SeaMonkey!

Actually I tried it on Linux and I quite liked it. - now I use it on Windows as well - this time as a portable app.  It isn't my daily driver - but it works okay.

I used the Composer webpage editor (which I'd forgotten excised) to write an HTML file with all my porn websites - handy not having to write it manually.

Back in July 2020, when Microsoft forced the then-latest version of Microsoft Edge on everyone, The Verge was not happy, and I do not blame them.

Just over two years later, the demise of Internet Explorer has been met with more pleasant reactions. Nobody liked that crap :D

I use Vivaldi.  It's just like the old Opera.  Ah Heaven...

Recently had to switch to an older version of Opera (v. 37) for it to work on my Mac (running OS X El Capitan).

I'm liking it so far.

One thing I don't like is it's hard to re-open an existing tab in another window. Or at least I don't know how to do it yet.
