When I was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, I was in building 55 barracks in Ford Island which was within easy walking distance from Battleship Row where the USS Arizona memorial/monument was. The Barracks used to be Pacific Fleet administrative offices in World War 2 and in the 1960's/1970's, they built more modern headquarters and then they turned Building 55 into barracks. I was in the Gold crew of the USS Robert E. Lee, SSBN-601, which actually was in Guam since she was a Polaris submarine nuclear ballistic missile with a relatively short range of 2,000 miles, so they would transport our crew from Hawaii to Guam normally in a C-5 or C-141 transports since Guam is about 3500 miles from Hawaii. This photo is of Ford Island in Pearl Harbor before the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941.
