This photo from 1925 is of the 13th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, Major General John Lejeune, and at present, the single largest base of the USMC in the East Coast of the USA is named after him, Camp Lejeune which is near Jacksonville, North Carolina, and it is 246 square miles or 640 square kilometers in size. The Army call their bases Forts and Marine Corps call theirs Camps and the reasons is because for most of its existence, the USMC was a relatively small force and it seldomly had separate facilities from the Navy and Marines were mostly stationed and were part of the crew members of Navy ships. World War 2 changed all of that. Yesterday, November 10th, was the 250th anniversary of the US Marine Corps.

Today is officially Veterans Day in the USA. It started as Armistice Day back in after World War 1 in the United Kingdom and France and later on in the USA but in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower, signed legislation changing it to Veterans Day. Remember, Eisenhower was the Supreme Ally Commander of the European Front in World War 2 also.
