Love you Pal, but unless you're a content creator that needs Apple's admittedly better and proprietary multimedia software, you're paying for prestige. MacBook Pro: $1500 (and never goes on sale). PC Laptop with the exact same components: $600. Facts aren't misinformation.

Pal replies: not to get into too much detail here Proof (I agree to disagree) but there's no $600. P.O.S. PC laptop that is actually equivalent to a new MacBook in any reasonable sense of the word. Metal case vs plastic, OSX vs whatever sad home version of Windows Bill is currently inflicting on the planet, Firewire 800 vs lethargic USB2, a razor-sharp display vs an often ghosty/soft one, multi-year near-or-at-the-top-of-the-list ratings by Consumer Reports for both support and infrequent repairs vs a commodity parts collection that'll depreciate 50% a few months after purchase, and a well-designed machine (and OS/interface/bundled apps, for which some price premium is paid) vs. whatever concatenation of components that some second-tier 'manufacturer' has slapped their logo on after having it built by some no-name subcontractor, etc... It's simply not an Apple to apples comparison by any stretch of the imagination.

Apple's market cap recently exceeded even Microsoft's, despite Apple always having well under a 10% share of the world computing platform market (and Microsoft having about 90%). Obviously, enough people ARE willing to pay a premium for well designed products (be it software, computers, music players, phones, etc...). If the goal is simply to achieve a set level of hardware specs for the cheapest possible price, then Apple is clearly not ever that specific answer, nor did I ever imply that was the case.
