If the tune of a song is bad, sometimes it can be made slightly palletable by a good beat.  However that song has neither tune, nor good beat.  The video isn't really that great either, I personally think that J-Lo's videos have a better sexual energy and that Janet Jackson's videos are somet of the most entertaining.  Also, both J-Lo and Janet have superior choreography.  However, Michael Jackson doesn't need 4 other dancers to make him not look foolish (watch Britney Spears' moves and how the other 4 dancers copy them, now imagine her doing them alone).  Sorry, I'm just in a sort of anti-modern pop mode (I blame Lou Perlman) and am gourging myself on classic rock and '80s music (which was also commercial, but at least amusing).

As far as the current state of rock music goes, I agree with Pacman, it's really over comercialized and lacks substance and true emotion....The pop stars never interested me in the least, it's just vapor in my opinion.
Brit is really cute, and that seems to carry you a long way in pop music. Too bad people don't require more depth to their musical tastes.

It always amazes me that people expect so much from pop music and its singers!  You have to remember that it's 10 to 13 year olds who determine the best selling singles... soooooooo obviously you can't expect it to have depth and meaning.  Those singers with content and substance will always appeal to an older, more mature audience, and have quite often fewer sales, except for the rare superstars who also have their ups and downs of commercial success.

And how can you compare Britney to JLo and Janet Jackson in terms of sexuality...one is barely 20 years and the other two are 10 years or more older!  They are women, she is a girl [or young woman]...I see Britney as a cute girl who will probably develop into a mega cinema star...we'll see.  JLo is a phenomenon...not many you can name who is a credible film star and successful performer as well.  As for Janet Jackson, she's never done anything for me.

Irish Girl's taste in rock is pretty good.  A healthy dose of classic rock there.  I noticed that at least 2 of your favorites are Irish artists (U2 and Van Morrison). BTW any else but me ever notice that U2's "You're So Cruel" is sort of like one of Van Morrison's slower songs due to the slight Irish flavor to the song?

I still think that there's some hope for the tastes of the music buying public and the public at large.  Pink Floyd's "Echoes" sold more copies than other new releases, thus eclipsing the entirety of the current pop scene.  Their fanbase stretches more than one generation and thus makes this possible.

Also, auto manufacturers are starting to re-introduce sporty hatchbacks and sports-wagons.  Maybe they'll cut into the market share of "Cute Utes" (small S.U.V.s like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV-4, and Chevy Tracker) and S.U.V.s.

A show of hands here.  How many people think that Britney Spears' remake of the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" is blasphemous?  How about her remake of Joan Jett's "I Love Rock and Roll"?  To me, those 2 things are wrong in the same way a lifted, 2 wheel drive, Chevy Suburban with knobby tires, brush-guards, and ram bumper being driven by a 16 year old on a cellphone is.  (Trendy just isn't my thing.  ...When the trend dies out, timeless style comes back...)

I'm waiting for todays supposed "rock fans" to finally get sick and tired of bands talking about how great they are, and how they are going to kick some ass in every song.
The trouble is the vast majority of rock fans are either past or close to 50 like me.
