I've always believed 800cc implants were the largest implants allowed here by the FDA. I recently heard of a woman getting 1000ccs in Utah. Can someone fill me in? What is the largest implants available without going to Europe and who does them??? I'm trying to collect all info about who and where to implants done in the 1000 plus cc range. I want to know exactly where to go when I find that special Lady who wants an awesome set of Hooters...

Her's are foreign(if I remember correctly).  He's talking about only finding 1000cc implants that are made in the US.

SiliMed, a company based in Texas, does manufacture 1000cc rated implants.  However, Silimed implants of any size are only approved by the FDA under a special evaluation program. This means that they can only be obtained through a plastic surgeon who is participating in their evaluation program, which explains why 98% of US plastic surgeons don't advertise the fact that these implants exist.  The 1000cc model is available on special order, but is not listed with their "catalog sizes".  See http://www.silimed.com for more info.  If I'm not mistaken, Christine Allure has these special order 1000cc implants, overfilled to 1200cc .

The Polypropylene String which comprises my own and Chelsea's string implants came from a differerent US company which manufactures Prolene Suture String.  It's literally just flexible plastic string about 1/16" in diameter!  You simply keep pulling it off the spool until you have the desired amount, submerge it in a big stainless steel "pot" filled with antiseptic solution, then take it out while wearing surgical gloves and stick it inside the breast!

Hi Melonie, thanks for all the good info. I heard that Xxxena also has 1000cc overfilled to 1300. I don't know if that's correct or not. Heard it second hand.
The Polypropylene String sound interesting. Is the string contained in any kind of shell? What is the advantage of the string over conventional implants? I'm thinking it may present a lower risk of contracture?

The whole "allowed here by the FDA" thing is variable too. Manufactured in the USA and implanted in the USA but manufactured in Europe are two different things. Vixen Lamoore has 2,000cc implants made in France but "installed" here in the US.

a 1300cc overfill is very possible - probably even 1400cc if you don't mind them starting to look and feel like softballs .

While Dr J's early handmade prototype implants did use a Prolene mesh bag, all of the later implants were simply a "ball" of wadded up polypropylene string stuffed inside the breast.  Because there is no "outer container", the string ball is really only contained by the breast skin.  A "tug of war" then begins between the skin's elasticity pressing inward versus the ball of string (surrounded by natural body fluid trying to isolate it like a blister) pushing outward.  Thank God that after two years (and 6 extra inches and about 6 extra pounds) mine seem to have stabilized.

Wait, I need to qualify that statement.  If I do something which deliberately disturbes the balance, like **94** a ton of Margaritas such that I develop massive fluid retention the next day, the force inside my breasts pushing outward increases temporarily.  This stretches the breast skin in reaction.  However, once the breast skin has been further stretched, the inward force that the skin generates is reduced permanently.  This basically means that after my boobs poof up due to temporary fluid retention that they don't "unpoof" to the same starting point - they remain somewhat larger and heavier permanently.  As I'm fast approaching the point where my boobs are maxing out my body's ability to carry them without back pain and where my boobs are beginning to limit my fast movements during workouts and dancing, I'm now very careful about my salt intake etc. With String implants there's definitely no risk of contracture - the main risk is, to coin a word, "expansure" !

The very real advantages of string implants are #1 they're leak proof, #2 they're lighter for a given volume than either saline or silicone due to the low specific gravity of PolyProPylene relative to water, and #3 the complete set of String implants probably cost all of $10 (depends on how many feet of string were used off the spool of course) compared to a typical cost of $1500 for a pair of US-made catalog size implants, and a cost of $4000-$8000 or more for three custom made European implants (depending on exchange rate and size/features of the implants - and don't forget that since they're custom made you have to order your own spare).

Forgive me for asking this rather stupid question, but the suture is gas or plasma sterilized, right?  They didn't take it off a spool and dunk it in chlorhexidene or povidone idoine for a little bit and then insert it, did they?

I believe the entire spool was gas sterilized initially, then given a 'dunk' in betadine at the very last minute as insurance against any pickup from gloved handling inside the O.R.  A substantial Betadine residue also served a secondary purpose of being an "irritant" to quickly stimulate the body to produce additional serous fluid in the breast "pockets".

Ahh, thank you.  The Betadine would have a nice slight antimicrobial effect as well.  Use it a lot to irrigate SC pockets.

I figured that they would sterilize it first but I had that "Whoa!!" moment there for a second.
