I just got The Gimp online today...I'm very eager to try morphing now, but 1) I don't know how to do that, and more importantly 2) I can't figure out how to install the damn thing.  Comes with no readme file.  The readme on the website reads like the friggin' Handbook for the Recently Deceased (which in turn read like stereo instructions)...Help?

What OS are you using?  Linux or other?  If Linux then what distribution and kernel version? Did you download an RPM file or a source package? A little more information will help us help you.

Fear not the utterance of large antelopes. If using Windows, Gimp-Win32 1.2 installs 'normally' apart from the hotfixes.

But we do need to know more.

I'm not even sure if I downloaded the Windows version, actually...I wasn't sure there was a difference; it took forever to find out how to download it because the site is so confusing, then I dl'ed a Winzip file called gimp-1-2-1.tar.  Is that any help?

A tar file probably means you got the source code, from which you could build the binary yourself, on Linux or Windows or whatever.  For Windows you'd need to have a suitable compiler and such, like the Cygwin package.

If what you wanted was a pre-built binary for Windows, the gimp.org mirror site I picked at random had a directory labeled win32, with what are probably the zip files for that...

Ok- looks like you're after the Windows binary (executable).
Go to this page and things will look much clearer. But don't be afraid to ask if you have problems.
