I'm seeding the torrent now, I'll leave it running for as long as I can. Its uploading at 30k/sec now.

Glad to help out everyone who helped me download the game.

It's wierd how most people assume that the internet is an America-centric place.  Those of you who use eMule and are cursed with BlackICE Defender, if you've used a tool to look up all the errant hits you're getting, you'll understand.

Part of the reason eMule is so slow is that odds are you're connecting to someone in Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Italy, France...

Think about it for a minute.  Winny is a Japanese file sharing program.  Most of the users are at least 3 time zones ahead of you.  People on the west coast might get good speed for that, since the America-Japan link is in your back yard, but I know speed and connection quality on the east coast can be utter crap when it comes to a Japanese user or website.  Try doing a tracert to a couple Japanese websites and see what happens about the time you skip off of Above.net and over the ocean.  Anyway, I better stop.  I'm on another one of my "expensive connection =/= good connection" rants.

Anyone ever get this to work on Win98?  I keep running into the autorun.inf problem Siloh mentioned when trying to run the demo version, and haven't been able to get around this problem.

Well of course it is.  Americans invented computers.  It all started in the 1800s...

Quote:

But it was not until centuries later, during the Industrial Revolution, that Da Vinci's vision became a reality. The man responsible was inventor Elias Smurton, who in 1807 built his revolutionary steam-powered computer, the Data Belle, which featured a 14-ton floppy diskette that required 40 men and a team of horses to insert.

Seeking to publicize his invention, Smurton staged a computing contest between his machine and one of the leading mathematicians of the day, John "Henry" LaFromage. In a dramatic demonstration of the awesome potential of automated data-processing, the human competition was literally "blown away" when the Data Belle, attempting to add 2 and 7, exploded with such force that what was believed to be LaFromage's pancreas was found nearly four miles away.

I read that on the internet.  It must be true.

sorry, couldn't resist!

Awesome.  I'm getting fair upload/download times.  About 30-40 kbps both ways.  I'd assume that the upload speeds will increase once my own download completes.

Thanks for the Torrent, Executor.  I'll leave my seed up until tomorrow morning.

The_Bigger: Yes, you do. A Google search for "BitTorrent" will find you everything you can need; there's lots of differenet versions and the program is quite small and non-CPU intensive.

NotElvis: I doubt you will be able to get it to work on Win98. Early versions of the AmeriEuropean Windows, up to somewhere around ~Win2000, if memory serves, were unable to handle Asian-character filenames and similar info; even installing the various upgrades didn't correct this problem. In WinME and past, however, the difficulty was corrected, at least to some degree. You will probably find, as I did, that upgrading is the only real option for running this sort of thing.

(Oh, I should note that while I haven't tried Winny yet, I regularly connect via other programs to users across the far Pacific at decent rates; the problem is just as often within the US- or other- networks as it is with the cross-oceanic ones.)

*cough*  Coming out of the shadows here real quick... I've got the torrent going... good speed too, 200+kb/sec.  I'll try to keep it uploading as long as possible... though I recently got in trouble with optimum Online for uploading for too long (apparently they don't care how MUCH you upload, just how long in one consecutive stream).  Sent my friend all of Gundam Seed fan-subbed... heh.

Anyways, looking at the instructions to set your PC to japanese... just wondering two things - 1) Do we have to do all four steps, or will the game run just changing the system locale?  and 2) Silly question but I'm assuming when we aren't playing the game, we'll have to set these things back?

Thanks much in advance.  Back to lurking!  Away!  *hides*
