death statistics in USA from BA or complications?
« on: May 05, 2004, 10:17:38 AM »
16 days to go till my BA. My pre-op is Monday. I don't want to be dramatic or anything, & I'm not backing out, but i'm starting to get kinda nervous.Anybody know how many people die from plastic surgery and complications? I wish i could take a pill or something instead of going under the knife...do you think i'm selfish to do this? I have 3 young kids.....sorry to be a downer, i guess i just want some reassurance, especially from the ladies who've had it done. I really like my Dr. and have alot of confidence in him, so thats not a problem, and its being done in a hospital...ugg, its just scary!

Dear TracyC,

It is a perfectly normal human reaction to get nervous before any kind of medical procedure, however mundane.  In your case, the procedure isn't mundane.  You are having surgery.  Plastic surgery, but surgery none-the-less.

How many people die from surgery or complications afterwards (for your specific procedure)?  I have no idea, but I expect it's very, very low.  Yes, it is possible to die from the simplest procedure.  You are having surgery afterall.  But Doctors have been doing BA's for quite some time now.  The actual surgery part of the procedure is not that invasive compared to many other surgeries.  It's not like you are having a lung removed, or having part of your eye cut off and then shot with a laser (laser eye surgery scares me, even though I want it eventually).  I expect the fatality rate from BA's is extremely low.

Are you being selfish?  Honestly, who cares?  It's your body.  You have to live in it.  Nobody else does.  If you will have a happier life with larger breasts, then go for it!  Don't worry about your [censored] , friends, or any one else.  Your [censored] will either understand, or come to understand in time.  Friends who start to distance themselves, because you had a BA, were never friends to begin with.

It's your body, it's your life: YOU need to be happy with it.

Hi Kiddo,

It is only natural for you to be nervous, hell I would be terrified if it was me.  At the same time though, you have told me you really checked out your Doc and you trust him so I think you have to go with that unless there is some reason to change your feelings.

Only proceed though if YOU want to. It is your body and health and no one here will like you any less if you don't proceed. You are a really sweet lady and I for one like you for your personality. And I know Doc will love you no matter what.

Truthfully though, there is risk in any surgery but I bet you are more at risk driving down a busy highway than getting surgery from a good doctor. I wish I had stats for you but I don't.

Hugs,
X

Hi Trac!!

What you're feeling is very common and expected.  Considering that you are confident with your doc and the proceedure will be performed in a hospital are two MAJOR reassurances!!!  My BE was performed in a hopsital and this alone made me feel more confident!

From your worries I'm gathering that you've had little to know experience with surgical proceedures????  If so, take it from someone who has had many...the worse part will be the recovery (and it alone is not that bad!!)  As long as you have a good doc working with a good medical staff then you will be FINE!!  I have no doubt that you and dochuge have secured the best!!

BTW - try not to read anything negative or depressing right now.  Your mental well being needs to be intact before the surgery too!

My prayers are with you sweetie and I can't wait to hear back and see you once it's done!!

Kisses baby!

More people get killed by accidents, don't sweat it, the chances of going death with a BA is very minimum.  Like 1 on the 10 million Be sure to use medicins and pain killers and it's not a BIG deal

Thanks everyone! *hi Bambi*
I'm just being a big baby, i know it will be ok. Thanks for the advice about not reading anything negative right now. My cousin called me last night (she has been very supportive up till now) and started giving me the line about silicone being so bad for you, causing chronic fatigue etc...I've done enough research that i feel comfortable with my choice, but i hate hearing that stuff!
I'm almost looking forward to the recovery, its going unconcious that scares me, like i wont wake up.
I did have a tubal, and a hernia operation, & came out of both fine, so im not really worried about anethesia...i don't know, if i was getting a reduction, or something for my health instead of just for my pleasure, would i feel as guilty? And people get nose jobs all the time, no one looks down on them, right?
I really really want the big boobies, and i KNOW it will make me feel 100% happier and more confident, not to mention how much fun it will add to my love life...(which is already pretty darn good doc props to you, honey)
but i can't shake the little bit of fear and guilt.
My sister just bought a $10,000 RV...now we arent campers, & i KNOW we'll get more use and fun out of our "recreational" toys. My parents arent giving her any grief...sheesh!
Anyway, thanks for the support. As soon as the big day has come and gone, i'll feel so much better!

Hi honey!!

You aren't being a big baby!  Hell, I got hit in the ankle with a baseball recently and cried like a two week old babe!!!

What you're going through is a BIG deal but it will be fine and PLEASE put all the negative feedback from your family aside (I deal with this too)!  They don't walk in your shoes and you and doc need to do what makes BOTH of you happy!!  We only have one chance at this life, so live it to it's fullest!  The good news is...you are doing just that!!!

Hugs hon!

Tracy keep in mind that technology evolves, nowadays everything is safe and completely secure!  Implants are like a tattoo these days completely safe!!  Don't sweat it, by the way did i tell you about my first operation, i need to have my 4 "adult" teeths in the back of my mouth removed, and i can tell ya that hurts a lot for sure i thought before going in the surgery, but when i woke up i felt nothing, it was pretty awesome.  I started eating yoghurt within the hour, it was pretty kewl.  So don't sweat it going in anestesia (is that correct spelled?), you will feel good and nice afterwards.  If i may add another good thing about it, most times when i see extreme makeover the sight of a woman seeing at the first time to her enlarged breasts is a extraorinaire laugh! Hope this will make you feel a lot better

I LOVE Extreme makeover, and the swan, all those shows! And you have to ask yourself, would they really have so many tv shows like that if it was soo dangerous?  those women have like 3 or four different procedures done all at once!! I'm just having one! That always makes me feel better watching those...

Geez, with you being in the hosipital, in the surgery room...

Frankly, the doctor could pull out a gun and shoot you and you'd survive.

Actually, the only times I've heard of women dying from BA surgury, was from breast REDUCTION surgury.

Hey Tracy,

I agree with Bambi you should not read any depressing stuff, so instead read some more of those "horny wife with big boobs" stories again lol

You will be fine, Doc is going to take good care of you like always.
