I've avoided this thread because old men get really boring; but considering how many of you old farts have posted, mebbee I should, too.

I remember a genus of magazine called "men's magazines" which were the same size as modern magazines, but were printed on pulp paper (newsprint) and sold throughout the 1950s for 35 to 50 cents. I think they were modeled on the old Police Gazette, but that was a conclusion I drew long after the fact.

They usually had realistic drawings on the covers, and went by names like True, Man's Adventure, or Battle! and were a mix of stories about World War Two or sex, and usually a mixture of the two. I don't know whether there was ever an article titled, "Hitler's Secret Sex Slaves", but that would be the idea. The best part, though, was the drawings. It seems that all the damsels in distress in WW II had very big boobs, and very few clothes. I assume there were stories that went along with the pictures, and I am sure I read them, but I don't remember very much.

Oh, yeah! And Saga:

Girls have tits. Women have breasts that cost money to maintain.

Can totally relate to this.  Any time you went to anybody's house to babysit, hang out with a friend ... the INSPECTION.  Palomine, u and I must be the same age.  It was those exact same books that I would sneak peaks into.

I also have to add that my earliest memories of seeing prominent breasts in an erotic way was age 5 ... the monster trading cards with Wolfman, Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc. carrying a bulging early 60s sweater girl off.

When the folks were away, methodical searches on upper shelves for anything even vaguely erotic.... discovering The Joy of Sex; Our Bodies, Our Selves; an Erica Jong novel (Fear of Flying of course); Xaviara Hollanders "The Happy **33**", etc... on various expeditions

At least no one has become addicted to internet pornography. 8)

I agree, gOOb. I, for example, watch only the optimally healthy amount of Internet porn. I never visit here more than three times per day, and I never stay more than eight hours per visit.

Who needs magazines anymore, we got the internet. :/

I did the magazine thing for a few years, a couple times. I love that post on here about the Woody Allen movie. Was hilarious. Gotta make sure that others don't catch on so you read a bunch of magazines. And then when you go towards the porn section act like it happened by mistake. Act like this must be your first time to see a porn magazine - you're not a pervert, just looking. So you grab one and then you go back to another section and lean over and see if there's anything worth taking home. Buy a couple other magazines to cover up the porn magazines so passerbys don't notice as much. And time most of your business for when customers aren't nearby or there're none present. Anyway, the whole affair took a while and you have to be careful because not every shop lets you take your time. Some of them will kick you out if you look like you're reading em. In fact, in some asian countries they keep their magazines behind plastic and you're not allowed to read em.

This is what I mean. People use the internet now to avoid the shame of getting a magazine. Same thing for movies. I did the movie thing for a while and probably still would for some things. But I imagine that someday we'll be able to do everything online and in a way that's a sad state of affairs. Computers can't replace the social environment. And probably shouldn't.

This is a nice thread. It's easy for us youngins to forget that you oldies had a childhood too. It's not that we don't know or think you didn't have one, we just don't know you as you were before we knew you. It's hard to appreciate everything in this world in the moment. There's so much that passes us by. This is one isolated example. It's so sad. Unfortunately, I don't think any of this is going to change. Time obliterates everything, eventually. Every word and every person and every memory. We all get wiped away whether or not we kick and scream. I can say it's sad, but it's hard to attach an emotion to something so deep and dreadful.

We used to have to plan our bathroom breaks around TV commercials because there was no TiVo or video on demand or illegal uploads of the show on YouTube. If you wanted to see a program, your ass had better be in the seat, or it started without you. If you drank a lot of coffee or tea, you were eventually going to have to make a choice between missing crucial plot points or pissing your pants.
