Darn it PE, you beat me too it again. I like the avatar too. The art is by Michael Trim. It's from the album cover of "Jeff Waynes Musical Version of WAR of the WORLDS" c.1978 CBS Records.

I knew that's where the nickname came from, but I had to dig the album (yeah, I have it on vinyl) out of the cupboard to get the particulars on the artist and such. I first heard it when a local radio station played it on Halloween many years ago. The first time I saw the album, I latched onto it.
I read the book decades ago. H.G. Wells was definately ahead of his time.
