I've always been a big fan of Hughes... very clean line work, he almost takes a minimalist Matt Wagner like approach to his figures. And I'll never forget when I saw that cover of the Justice League America (around #34, if memory serves) where Fire is bending over to serve Blue Beetle and Booster Gold some cocktails. My god, the cleavage...

But as this thread is about Power Girl:

Don't mind me. Just passing through.

Thanks much for the help, MW - and there's some interesting stuff there - but I can't find anything by Joseph Mackie, like that amazing triptych posted by CandyeMan.

One great thing about almost all the versions of Power Girl: they accept her unabashedly as a large-, even huge-breasted heroine.  And I like that.

I love that "classic" style. Like 50's retro styling, it is just so hot. Dont really know anybody who would dispute that clean lines in animation are the best, not such a big fan of some of the modern comics that arent so sharp.

Love the way the bullets bounce off her tits!

Yeah. I go for that too. Lord knows why, in real life iron-hard tits wouldn't be much fun.  But in a cartoon it's a real turn-on.

Anyone remember this contest-winning post of mine from a year ago?   I put in the bouncing bullets.

Still hoping to find more of Joseph Mackie's work:  CandyeMan?  Anyone?

One of the Yahoo Power Girl groups has some pictures by a guy named Joseph Mackie

Would you mind telling us WHICH Yahoo group?  A search for "Power Girl" turns up all kinds of crap.

I wish I could tell you.  I belong to three, and I don't remember which one it came from.  But if it wasn't the one MunchWolf mentioned, it's either http://groups.yahoo.com/group/powergirl/?yguid=132769422 or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PowergirlArt/?yguid=132769422 .  Be sure to look in the Files sections, too -- some groups have plenty of PG art there that's not in the photo albums.

Actually, that last picture I "touched up" in Photoshop.  The original looks like it was shot from a wall poster, taken at an odd angle.  All I did was to "square it up" so that the proportions all look a little more realistic.  So to speak.

If I come across the origin site again, I'll be sure to post it.

ADDENDUM:  FWIW, Mackie has a new drawing in the "Power Girl Art" group, under Files > April 2005.  I've attached a closeup of PG from that picture.

Thanks for replying, Candye Man.  I had already searched those groups and found nothing.  Judging from the messages, the Mackie pics you posted have been deleted.  Sigh.  I also gather that other people were trying to find a site that featured this artist, but in vain.

Oh well, it wasn't all wasted time: I really like Mackie's style, but I got some nice pics by other artists.  Here's what I've done with a couple of them:

Unfortunately they depart pretty widely from the Power Girl theme.
Good job on fixing up that third pic in the MAckie triptych btw: her ass really looks great!

From previous posts I know there are a lot of Power Girl fans at this site.  Well, I hope this isn't old news but I just found out there's a new limited series called "JSA Classified" coming out from DC next month that will finally tell the untold origin of everyone's favorite big busted superhero, or, as the promo says:"...eveyone's favorite female JUGGernaut..." (My emphasis)
Obviously, the events cronicaled in the old "Crisis" series make it unlikely that Power Girl is actually related to Superman, but no viable origin has ever been proposed for her.  She was just...there, in the DC universe because she was so popular with artists and fans.
Art is by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti and the examples I saw look real good. Oh yes, ADAM HUGHES does an alternate cover!

Actually, she does have an origin, but it's pretty silly, IMO.  She's from 50,000 years in the past, is an Atlantean, grand-daughter of Arion the Sorcerer.  She was put in a dimension where time moves much slower to save her from being possessed by an evil being.  Her memories of Krypton were implanted, and have since been proved false.  All this is from the 1990 issue of Who's Who in The DC Universe, and I don't know if they've ret-conned her back story since.

They have, or at least are going to. They mentioned in a JSA a while back that Power girl's powers weren't magic based (i.e. given by Atlantian wizard) but physiological (more like superman's). I didn't read an explanation (though I did stop reading JSA)

Also kryptonite sometimes works on her and sometimes no.

Methinks that they might kill her off in the upcoming "Infinite Crisis". Just a hunch… course no one in DC has ever stayed dead thus far.

They figured out how Alan Scott still exists. They can figure out Power Girl.

Actually, the article in Who's Who says her powers are from a toughening of her body, not magic.  The improvement in her physiology is caused by magic, but is purely physical, as I understand it.  Of course, this is applying logic to the illogical.  And her being affected by Kryptonite at all is completely illogical, unless it is just plain old radiation poisoning... which would explain how Lex Luthor could get cancer from it. I'm not going to go any further with this, as it would desend this thread into comic geekdoom.
