Yay for the Timothy Dalton fans.  Not my favorite, but he's up there.  He got an unfair shake during his term.  The Living Daylights is one of my very favorites.  If I had to order them, it would be:

1) (tie) GoldenEye
1) (tie)  For Your Eyes Only (MARVELOUS return to form after many, many years of bad, bad Bond movies)
3) (tie)  The Living Daylights
3) (tie)  Tomorrow Never Dies
5)  From Russia with Love...classic.
6)  Thunderball...it's a little overlong, but it's ultimate Bond.

But if I were ranking the movies by scores, it would be quite different.

I give Casino Royale credit for Dr. Noah's rather Addventurelike plot to make all men on Earth even shorter than he is (and he's Woody Allen!), but that's about it.

Given the way this thread has gone, maybe the question now is: which BEA princess would you like to see as a Bond girl?

Anekee!  I know she would do a far better job than Denise Richards as the token female busty semi-naked scientist.

Elvish one, thank you!  I was leaning towards Zasha as your basic can-do helpmate, but you're right ... in fact, I think I'll go convey this ...

Hmmm....

Melonie Charms as "M".
Zasha as the agent from the "other side" who has turned to the forces of Good.
Miss Chevious as Moneypenny.

The villain is the leader of the Fashionazis who wants all women to have less curves than Twiggy.

All our other Princesses will have some role - at least a walk-on.

Wasn't there an agent "Z" somewhere?

<Miss Chevious as Moneypenny.

Great taste, MissC!

John Barry is the MAN.  I was thinking about that just now because I've got some of the Bond underscore pieces stuck in my head.  The Bond scores are some of the best and most underrated scores in film...  (Plus which the man's a god just for what he did with Body Heat.)  I haven't heard all of them, but from what I have heard, some notable Bond scores:

  • Goldfinger
  • Thunderball--perhaps the best of all of them...GLORIOUS, glorious music, very wonderful light jazz-type stuff, and a hard uber-bond instrumental of "Mr. Kiss-Kiss Bang-Bang"
  • Live and Let Die...for what it's worth, I thought George Harrison did a decent job.  But wow, it's different.
  • A View to a Kill--one of my favorite guilty pleasure Bonds even though it has a lot of bad points...but, it's blessed with a fabulous Barry score, one of his best.  In one of many great moments, Duran Duran's hard-rocking theme is transformed into a gorgeous flute ballad...it's really something to behold.
  • The Living Daylights--another of Barry's best...experimenting with rock guitar and drum machines, with success...bold brass, the theme is done as a flute ballad again, and a full orchestral waltz of the closing theme ("If There Was a Man") is marvelous.
  • Tomorrow Never Dies--David Arnold did good things with this after GoldenEye's nauseatingly wretched score.  So many divine pieces--the pre-credits sequence, an terrific all-brass version of the Bond theme, also given a high-octane techno treatment, and kd lang belting what SHOULD have been the opening theme, "Surrender."  Wow.
  • The World is Not Enough--terrible movie, very decent score.  The track "Casino" is one of the coolest, most addictive tunes ever.

    Goldeneye
"Oh, GoldenEye...you never deserved music that bad..."

Just a quick quiz golden to set my mind at ease. Is the guy who plays whitaker (sp) in the living daylights the SAME guy who plays the american with the muffie tattoo in goldeneye?

Do I have to pick just one?

I'd say let them all be Bond girls!  Now that would be the best Bond movie ever!
