DivX codec for Mac user
« on: July 30, 2002, 07:53:24 AM »
Simply go to http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/ to download a divX codec for your macs.

This might be old but still important for all those who said that they could not watch movies.

Miasma,

What do you use to view AVIs? Most of the time I can't get QuickTime 5 to play them with any regularity!

So I have come to dread AVIs and DivX downloads whenever I see them. Basically, I believe that the underlying technology of these two formats is just flaky.

I did try downloading the codec.  It seems to work but it made my machine a bit unstable.  After viewing a few movies in divX and suffering a few crashes I decided to uninstall it in favor of reliability.  This could just be a problem with my machine but like turbo has stated, .avi's are sporadic at best in Quicktime and this codec doesn't seem to help much in that respect.  It DOES work, though, if there's a movie you just HAVE to see.

just my 2 cents,

I do not use apples, I was just posting this as an FYI.
Does anyone who has encoded Quicktime know which codec to use, I have no idea which one is best for size and quality?
