Well...it's no longer a local news story. Just saw CNN is doing a piece on it today. While I am sympathetic to much of what has been said on this matter, having been both an educator and an attorney (but NOT a parent) I am inclined to say that Angleus is pretty spot-on with his assessment of the prism through which this incident is viewed by parents of school children, school boards, administrations, etc. I taught with teachers who were unapologetic about their massive drug use during the 60s and 70s and yet parents REQUESTED their students be put in the guy's class. But in America, sex is different.
If I can offer an educator's perspective though... students hate some teachers but IDOLIZE others. That is possibly the parents' fear...that impressionable female students would LIKE Crystal and somehow see her as setting an example to follow.
The flaw here is that Crystal never attempted to let them know of her past. But, now that it's known, well...you can't put that genie back in the bottle. Now you would have parents claiming that they don't want their children thinking that you can find "decent" employment after a life in the adult entertainment industry (even though those parents' actions make it a self-fulfilling prophecy) and so it's okay to do it when you're younger like "cool" teacher-aide Ms. Crystal.
Should people be more enlightened and not so puritanical? Probably. But do parents have the right to be very protective of their [censored]? Yep. As an attorney, I am proud we have laws that technically protect Crystal in this situation (if her lying doesn't cost her). But I can also say that when a school wants to get rid of someone, they will find a way. So I suspect she will move on to something or somewhere else eventually.
My two cents anyway... I doubt the CNN piece will spend much time on Crystal's side of the argument.
On the upside, maybe she'll get back into the biz...and we get to see more of her fantastic boobs! (just kidding...my heart actually goes out to her in this situation).
