OK, I've been keeping something from everyone. My neighbor V is a close friend of Hugh Hefner since the late 70's. He practically grew up at the Playboy mansion. In fact, I was just on the phone with him as he was on his way there for Sunday movie night. My connection with him is I care for his aging dog when he leaves town, and I restored one of his classic motorcycles, and I'm about to restore another one. That's what we mostly talk about, but every so often he'll tell me a Playboy mansion story.
One afternoon the mansion came up and I casually asked if he knew the model Joyce Mandel, who has been known to attend movie night. He didn't recognize the name at first, so I described her and he lights up, "Oh sure, sure, Joyce (then mentions her actual name). I've known her since the early 80's! Stunning looks, tiny woman, beautiful all natural breasts, really shy, very sweet, silly sense of humor at times." He knows her ex husband really well, and still sees him often.
That was months ago when he told me, so today as he's heading toward the mansion I said, "Say hello to Joyce for me." "Who?" (again not recognizing the name) I reminded him, and he laughed. Then he told the most amazing story of dating one of the Playboy girls in the early 80's, who happened to be a friend of Joyce, and one night the three of them ended up at V's place. It was a hot night, and at some point V dared the girls to take their tops off and they did, walking around in just their bras. She would have been in her early 30's at that point.
I know there are more stories like this and I'll be sure to ask about them!
