Yeah the baggy pants thing came from prison alright.

Inmates wern't allowed belts (presumably to stop them killing each other) so their pants hung a little low.

Gangmembers then started doing this to show that they'd been in prison or wern't afraid of going to prisons.

Now retards emulate this because these gangs have been glamorized by the media ie rap and games like GTA San Andreas.

Now ya know...

Um, er, you wouldn't happen to have any, um, up-close-and-personal experience with the latest fashions in prison have you, Lovesquirrel? Although if you do, knowing that you are a man of honor, I mean you no disrespect, Don L.

You can't ever gauge such things, but at least in the photo the women seem to really be kissing each other.  In so much other so-called "lesbian porn" they're posing about as hotly as Anna Nicole Smith's brain ever worked before a college entry exam.

What cultural change has surprised me the most?

Two, really:

1) It used to be true that there was very little difference between the two major American political parties. Both shared certain values about joint problem solving in a secular society, the importance of an independent judiciary, and the importance of personal and group integrity.

Then in 1980 the Republican Party gradually but completely abdicated control of its moral sense to a tiny group of lunatics who think Jesus is coming a week from Thursday.

Last year the Party started its recovery, but it has a long way to go.

2) If in 1970 someone had told me that not only would drugs be illegal in 2000, but 40% of all U.S. prison inmates would be there for drug offenses, I would have laughed that anyone could make such a stupidly cruel prediction.

I suppose there is a third major cultural shift in there: The United States has more people in its prisons than does China, which has four times the population. And the United States criticizes China for ignoring human rights...
Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.

In the 1900 there were more people riding bicycle than they are today with a huge increase of population that doesn't change the statistic. With high gas prices I am still baffled by the statistic.

In the 1900 people used to talk about politics in bars and it became a regular thing of who can out wit and argue a good case against those with differeing views, and then they would pat each other on the back for sticking to the issue.
Today, you would get kick out for being too controversial. Politics was a way of life and it was something to do for your community.

Consider it fortunate that the election in question was not in the 70s, otherwise he could have been named Richard Nixon

The cultural change that will never cease to amaze me is how stupidity appears to be ever so acceptable.

At the end of April we changed corporate names, and it was a big name, yet a scythe was never involved.  That surely would have boosted my motivation.

#1) That the global warning hoax would be believed almost universally.

I'm sorry but global warming isn't a hoax.  I just appears to be due to other conditions  like global dimming that no one is talking about.  I short is doesn't matter if we are the cause or its natural.  Other factors intensify the effects.  Global Warming in just one of many problems were are facing.  If you get a change see, Hurricane on the Bayou (IMAX)  it has nothing to do with global warming.  But the problems are just as devastating.  (sorry I'm a huge nerd so I thought I would reply to that)

Anyway what I'm surprised at is the lack of public outrage.  Not only over political issue but the bs flowing around.  Like Paris Hilton serving only 24 days and is seen as a victim.

The lack of enforcement of the Son of Sam Law.

And the lack of real news out there.  Everything today is editorials.  Give me the facts not some overpaid models (anchor people) opinion.

I agree total.  Her is a little joke/metophor I remember about the two parties.

"There are two puppets.  The you like agree with the one on the left but you like the one on the right.  Problem is you don't notice they are both being held by on puppeteer."

I'm an independent and I know that one thing the two parties hate more than each other is independents.  Many time that have put aside there differences to crush us third party people. (blocking from debates, bribing judges to over turn petitions to be on the ballot,...)

The big tattoo craze for both men and women.  More "Rap/Prison Chic"?

I wonder what they'll look like when their grannies and grandpas.  Of course they'll never get old.

At least with piercings you can just take them out.

Also the women's extreme shaving "down there" (not to mention the painful waxing of the cooter}

Me, I think that came from internet porn depictions (which involves porno chicks and strippers, who did it first), but I have had women vehemently deny that this is the case.  The swimsuits are glorified stripper outfits, IMHO.  Not that I'm complaining!

Of course, it does allow for certain desired activities "sans hair in the teeth".
