Yanks sign up Richie Sexson from Settle, hope he snaps out of the rut of his and stop striking out all the time.

Mets won their tenth straight last night on the straight of their bats. Pitching suck big time, Santana look awful almost 100 pitches in just four innings, not good

He said it was because of the Billy Joel concert.

I kid you not, he said it!

A.J. Burnett suffers another loss despite a great outing (2 ER in 7 innings pitched in a 2 - 1 loss to Tampa), the Jays just can not score runs when they need to, and the pitchers can't hold when they do.  Hopefully there's a team out there willing to made a deal with Toronto.

Jose Molina {Yankees} clearly took one for the team, sticking out his rear knee to be hit by the ball, for a force in winning win in the bottom of the 12th against Oakland

Randy Johnson pitched 7 innings, giving up 2 hits and 1 walk in 86 pitches before his team let him sit for his bullpen (Unless he was tired, I was screaming), but it held.  So win #291 recorded for the Big Unit.

Amazing game...pitchers ruled without question.

Guess he'd better do more than that since he's now #1 catcher in Yankee land.

It's beyond me that Dave Robertson {Yankees} pitches one pitch to Delmon Young {Twins} to have him hit into a fielder's choice out and win the dam game.
Darrel Rasner {Yankees} pitch one hell of a game to get a no-decision, it wasn't not his fault the Twins score two runs that inning.

Phils lost -- I said even at the time when watching the game live I would have brought Myers out for the 7th because he went through the 6th in 9 pitches, but then our bullpen uncharacteristically gave it up.  It happens.

Tonight is the rubber game.  Braves more than dead since Chipper Jones aggravated his hammy and Hudson dinged his arm.

And Mets Philly-killer Oliver Perez does the job, with welcome help from Aaron Heilmann.

The Mets are now in sole possession of first place in the NL East.

It'll be interesting how the Mets handle Perez when he approaches free agency after this year.  He's like two different people.  The good Perez might be the best lefty in baseball, a very rare critter.  The bad Perez doesn't even belong in "A" ball.

Now that the Mets seem to be doing pretty good, does this make the summary dismissal of Willie Randolph even more annoying or what?

I'd argue that they think that they did the right thing in getting rid of Willie, considering the results.  Me I think the pitching coach might deserve the credit, considering how well Perez and Pelfrey are doing.  That plus the resurrection of Delgado.

That being said, they could have been a little more classy about how they went about letting Willie go.

P.S.  Speaking about difficult decisions, how are they going to deal with Delgado's free agency?  It's not like you can easily get a first baseman that can do what he's doing.

Delgado {Mets} is having one killer month of July, he done swat for May and June. Let's wait and see what he does in August and September to judge a new contract.
Every baseball player has one great month in the season, which he can't do any wrong and one bad one, that he just wants to forget about.

Also the Mets won that game because the Phils' bullpen gave it up.  Jamie Moyer, all 45 years of him, throwing 82-83, pitched 7 innings and gave up 2 hits and 1 run.  He had a no decision, but we couldn't honor his effort and win it.
