If the Rays win the opener, they win the series easily. Boston is showing signs of creaking. Tampa Bay in 5 or 7.

I don't think the Dodgers luck will hold out. Phillies in 5.

WHY YOU SHOULD ROOT FOR THE DODGERS:

Because Joe Torre's success would really stick it to the Yankees, as well as demonstrate that he really is a good manager.

WHY YOU SHOULD ROOT FOR THE PHILLIES:

Quick question: Which team that's been around for more than a century has the fewest WS championships? If you said the Cubs, you're wrong. Cubs: Two World Championships and ten pennants in 131 years. Phillies: 1 championship and five pennants in 124 years.

WHY YOU SHOULD ROOT FOR THE RAYS:

Because it will be so much fun! The team that was the worst last year taking it all? And a tiny market team at that!

WHY YOU SHOULD ROOT FOR THE RED SOX:

Umm... They might be the best team overall? Seriously, root for someone else. Their fans are in danger of becoming as arrogant as Yankee fans.

I can't argue.  In general, a great reason, since the Skankees railroaded Joe.

We've earned it and we didn't enter this year and kept it up all season talking like we were the destined ones.

Yet despite that I witnessed our one time when we won it all and even went to a game on my birthday in 1980.

Then later went to our games in 1993, when we ended up losing.  I was at our first NLCS game where we won, it was electric.  I watched all the games and was at my house literally debating with friends who will pitch game 7 of the WS when Joe Carter hit the ball out in 1993.  I've felt enough pain.

My father's first Phillies game was in Baker Bowl, which also had the largest loss of life in a stadium accident.  We need payback.

I wouldn't excatly call the 12th largest TV market 'tiny', but thanks for the support.

2-0 vs the Dodgers....Viewed predictions that gave the Dodgers a 53% chance of beating us.  And we always get the earliest spot on tv.  No respect.  But we'll show you we deserve it.

Another reason to root for the Rays: If they win the pennant, Fox will finally be forced to show one of their games.

Phils up 3-1.  I feel that same way.  During the NLDS, we had the earliest game almost every time.  They clearly felt we were the dregs.  At this level it's so few that it's all fair, but I still hold that grudge.  Give us the Rays.  I fear the BoSox more.

Tonight, the Tampa Bay at Boston is the only baseball game in town. Is Fox showing the Rays pummeling the Sox?

Nope.

What is their excuse?

I'm guessing TBS has the AL games and Fox has the NL. I suppose Fox has the Series though.

I predicted LA and Boston to win and am looking real bad right now. Just shows you that being hot is very ephemeral--let me explain in terms you'll understand. Remember Lindsey Dawn Mackenzie? Exactly.

I'm betting Fox is not liking the idea of Tampa Vs. Philly.

Could have been worse, I guess.

Tampa Vs. Milwaukee?  Shudders

Congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies on winning the National League Pennant!

And I believe you are correct about TBS and the AL playoffs. But even during the regular season FOX seemed to be completely unable to show a Tampa Bay game.

A Philadelphia - Tampa Bay WS would really upset their applecart! No "**28**" to talk about!

By the way, who do you think will throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch for the Rays? They don't have a history of winning teams or star players...

Let's see....

The First Pitch for the ALDS was thrown by Senior VP John Higgins, their first-ever employee. He was joined on the field by many of the other 51 original employees still with the Rays’ organization. Nice touch.

For the WS, possibilities include Wilson Alvarez, who threw the first real pitch as the starter in the first game in franchise history. Rolando Arrojo was their first All-Star. Jim "The Rookie" Morris wasn't special as a reliever, but he did get a movie made about him. Hall-of-Famer Wade Boggs hit the Rays' first home run...

(By the way, as I write this, it's 2-0 Rays in the middle of the first inning.)

Add Charlie Crist to my list.

Fun Fact:

Wade Boggs is the only player in MLB history to hit a home run for his 3000th hit. The hit came for the (then Devil) Rays in St. Pete on my 30th birthday.
