I think I've seen enough evidence to post this.
I believe that at the age of 39,Father Time has caught up to David Ortiz.He's on pace for around 22 hrs and 65 to 70 rbis.He reminds me now of Ken Griffey JR in his later years.Good enough for 20 hrs and 70 rbis but not the feared hitter he used to be.It is obvious that Ortiz has lost a tad bit of bat speed and that is all you need to go from 30 or 40 homers every year down to 20 or 25.He can't get around fastballs and is popping them up or hitting them foul.I'm not a fan of the Red Sox but I am of Ortiz.I think he was the most dangerous hitter for the past 12 years or so in baseball.

If he, and the Red Sox, are smart, he'll call it a career soon. After this season, probably.

Oh, and the latest numbers indicate that the All-Star Game will NOT be "Kansas City vs. the National League"...

As of right now, the Mets have a 6 1/2 game lead over the Nationals in the NL East. They have a record of 70-56, which is the same as the Los Angeles Dodgers and better than the New York Yankees.....

In addition to the usual pennant races, there's also the "Race For the First Draft Pick" - the worst record in baseball.

That after losing a lot of players during the off season, the KC Royals STILL managed to win the AL Central?

And when everyone predicted that the Nats would run away with the NL East, it turned out the Mets were the ones that grabbed that flag?

I'm an old Tom Paxton fan (he's on his last tour; unfortunately, only the East Coast.) and his patter always includes something about the Mets. They are, I think, the real "America's team"-- They're either the best or the worst, and you never know until it's too late.

YEARS SINCE LAST WORLD SERIES WIN:

Astros - never won in 53 years
Blue Jays – 22
Cardinals – 4
Cubs – 107
Dodgers – 27
Mets - 29
Rangers - never won in 43 years
Royals – 30

Would be nice if the Cubs won since there is hardly any living American that witnessed them win the World Series ( Not even Pedonbio   ;) ;D ) but I'm sure they will not disappoint their fans and figure some way to fuck it up. I didn't realize how long it's been since the Dodgers, Royals, Mets and Blue Jays have won it all. How time flies. I'm sure the Astros and Rangers will keep their streak alive. Interesting Baseball playoffs, that's for sure.

The Mariners have never been in a Series in 38 years; Seattle itself hasn't in 43 years if you count the prior team, the Pilots, who are now the Milwaukee Brewers.

They are consistent.

And you're right, rtpoe--The last time the Cubs were in the Series, Teddy Roosevelt was president.

The Blue Jays haven't even been in the playoffs since they won in 1993, so their mere appearance this year was cause for celebration in Canada.  Unfortunately there may not be much more to look forward to this year the way things are going.
