Although he has no real connection to the Rays, how about Frank Tepedino, a NYC fire fighter who was at Ground Zero on 9/11, threw out a first pitch in a 2001 playoff game and coincidentally was a teammate of both Mickey Mantle, when he hit his 500th homer and Hank Aaron, when he hit his 715th.

I thought about starting a new thread for this post but I guess it could fit into this one as well.

A Philadelphia - Tampa Bay WS would really upset their applecart! No "**28**" to talk about!

Please excuse our players winning the last 2 NL MVP awards.

But if we can further screw the corporate talking heads' expectations, so much the better.  I'm already thrilled we eliminated NY before and LA recently.

Hey, no problem! I was referring to Hollywood-type **28** (e.g. Ramirez, Jeter...).

By the way, the Sox won a pitcher's duel tonight in St. Pete. There will be a Game 7.

Tha Tampa Bay Rays won their first American League pennant with a 3-1 victory in Game 7 of the ALCS over the defending champion Red Sox. Matt Garza pitched 7 innings of 2-hit ball, allowing 1 earned run while recording 9 strikeouts in the clincher and was named series MVP.

Next, the Rays face the NL champion Phillies in the World Series beginning Wednesday night.

I've read one article where the author claimed this would be a boring WS. I can see his point; neither of the teams have national fan-bases (the Rays don't even have a *local* fan base), and none of them have the sort of marquee player that the media love to worship.

The Phillies only have a history with one WS win and five pennants in over a century, plus the last two NL MVPs and one good candidate for both this year's MVP and Cy Young awards.

The Rays don't have a history. They only have a large number of very talented young players who deserve some national attention. I seem to recall a lot of Rays in uniform at the All-Star Game this summer. I'm not sure, but I'd be willing to bet this will be the first time all year that FOX will broadcast a Rays game...

As far as my personal prediction?

I don't have one, since with these two teams, I don't care. I just want it to go the full seven games. Seven, exciting, well=played games with clear winners.

All the articles I've read have given the Phillies no respect.  But we had it before the NL playoffs.  We weren't supposed to make it.

Past the Seligs, yes.  But not past the Dodgers.

And then into the WS...Whoa.

No World Series posts!!!!    Feh!

So Phils' pitchers did their job the first two games....Hitters got on base, but couldn't finish.  Chase Utley could in the first inning of the first game and that made the difference.

Now we move to Philly, in a totally new environment and field, and the Phils couldn't have wanted it more.

I still pick the Phils to win, in 6.

Game 2 was basically a primer.

This is a Suicide Squeeze. This is a Safety Squeeze.

This is the right way to do a Collision at Home Plate.

I'm hoping the Series goes the full seven games.

May you burn in a way that only ingesting a gallon of Dave's Insanity Sauce can offer.

Phils in 6.  We had no problems getting on base and now we're back to our fans and our grass and we didn't even need 2 calls from Kerwin Danley to make it happen.

Damn!  We had it in order before the Philly weather ruined it.  (One reason I left Philly -- it was 89 and sunny today.   )  So whether the game resumes on Tue or Wed, it'll give the Phils 4 shots to score against the Rays' pen and the Rays 3 shots to score against the Phils' pen.  I still like the Phils' odds.
