About the one major annoying point was the tendency to have bright lights shine straight into the camera.  A little here and there?  Fine.  But this is one feature where if a little is good, then a lot does not make it "more good".  

Also enjoyed the closing credits.  I recognized it immediately as a sort of tip o' the hat to the closing credits in the original series.

I was able to goto a midnight showing, and had 2 differnet opinions about it.

1) If you are looking for a good Star Trek movie....you've got the right now, it's a GOOD ST movie, not an excellent one (a few things bothered me during the movie...one dealing with the touching of a certain Vulcan).

[Then again....this is a Trekkie saying this ]

2) If you are looking for an Action movie...you've really found a great one. Because it functions much much better as an action movie then a ST one.


In conclusion.....Go and watch it, because it is highly entertaining. ^_^

I saw it last week and I'm afraid I thought it was a big pile of dumbed down crap. 
And the fact TOS, TNG, DS9 and VGR and all 10 previous films have big sucked out of existence by an enormously huge plot hole (I mean come on Spock is the only person in the 24th century who can stop the Romulan star from going nova? The reason they couldn't evacuate is? The reason they couldn't just plonk a singularity in there themselves as it was established long ago that their Warbirds are powered by them so they sure as hell can create them by themselves is?) is the crowning turd.

I think the new Star Trek is pretty damned good - I wouldn't mind seeing it in the theater again. Granted, there were a few things that irked my a bit, but is there any way to make a movie like this and not? I just wish we could all go back to 1999 and do a do-over on Star Wars Episode 1 with JJ Abrams directing - I think he could have done amazing things with that franchise as well.

Didn't want to create a new thread for this, but I saw Star Trek and was was quite sad to see no Diora Baird. I tried to look up why, but all I found were various stories on how she was in Star Trek. Apparently she was supposed to play the "Orion Slave Girl" but the only green woman in that movie was, as we already know, Rachel Nichols.

Anyone know the 411 on the tragic absence of Baird from Trek?

Having served aboard several "ships" like the Midway, Constellation and the Coral Sea I can understand why the Enterprise in this movie version is so different.

When the Midway was first commissioned in 1946 it had pretty much of a straight looking flight deck and also it had been initially constructed to be a battleship.

Throughout constant retrofitting and upgrades the final product barely resembled the original by the time it had been decommissioned the 2nd time and now is tied up to a pier in San Deigo, CA as a museum much like the Intrepid in New York.

The TV series started out pretty much with Kirk in his mid - 30's, so it is conceivable that the Enterprise had gone through many upgrades etc. After all look at what Willian Shatner looks like now!
