The fans and their incessant arguing over canon and continuity can really ruin this. It's not going to be easy to satisfy them while still drawing in a new audience.

I will enjoy it for what it is rather than insist it has to be something I want it to be. Things change and evolve and I like to see where they go.

I would like this new series to be post Picard, further into the future. I want to see the technology move on, see new ships.

He really does. Some of the episodes are really, really good. Some are . . . not.

Have to say that I went to see Star Trek Beyond lately (Beyond what exactly?) and was distinctly underwhelmed. Some decent action sequences and some good humour, but not a patch on the 2009 movie, not even as goos as Into Darkness either really. A poort way to celebrate 50 years of Star Trek, I understand that they did not want to alienate moviegoers, but really? It should have had a few more references to old Trek, even if they were only picked up by trekkers and went over the head of the average joe.

Krall as a villian was pretty much Meh, and the swarm as antagonists 'shrugs shoulders'.

At least in 1996 the 30th Anniversary movie was kick-ass and featured the Borg. The 25th anniversary movie had Klingons. What do we get for the 50th? Big walking lizards.

Must do better for the 4th (14th) one, if there IS going to be another one. This one looks like it will make a loss for the studio.

Looks like 'Thor' himself has signed up for the next Star Trek movie, reprising his role as George Kirk, James T Kirk's pops. The story involves time-travel (obviously) but BEYOND that (see what I did there?) no further plot details. One thing that will polarise the world of a Trek is what to do about Chekov. Do they kill him off off-screen? Promote him and put him on another ship? I did have an idea that they could have him caught in an unseen temporal anomaly that sends him about 50 years into the past and later in the movie they answer a distress signal on a remote planet and come across... Old Chekov played by Walter Koenig. They could then have old Chekov die heroically at the end of the movie, sacrificing himself to save his crew. Which would be a fitting memory and Send-off for such a popular character. Recasting is not an option according to JJ Abrams, which I agree with.

New Star Trek series, Star Trek:Discovery is on the way but will NOT be tied to the movie series. I did read that Jason Isaacs (Event Horizon, The Harry Potter movie series)  will be playing the Captain but will not be the main character. I think that is supposed to be Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), who plays a Lt. Commander.

Be interesting to see what they do with it.

Supposedly it will be set about 10 years before the original Star Trek.

^ In other words, at least the latter part of the new series will coincide with Pike's command of the Enterprise, with Spock serving as science officer.

I hope it has gooseneck viewers on the bridge, and velour shirts without black collars, and laser pistols and "time-warp" factors; all from the original pilot.

So... does anyone think the new Star Trek series will be any good? I've seen the trailer, looks very stylish. We may at the very least have the best pilot episode to date, my favourite one so far would probably be the Enterprise pilot.

Since I refuse to watch anything that's not either available on OTA broadcast TV or on cable, I don't see how I'll be able to view this latest effort. (CBS All Access: phooey! And it's a shame because I think Christine Baranski is a national treasure and I would have loved to seen her on The Good Fight.)

Speaking of Star Trek, has anyone caught Star Trek: Lower Decks?

ICYMI, it's an animated series on CBS All Access (and on certain video hosting websites other than YouTube) that is firmly set in the ST:TNG Era (OK, a teeny bit past it), and is a truly wonderful and appreciative spoof of ALL of Trek (there are even references to the 70s animated series).

Reviews have been generally positive - and I liked all the episodes.
