I'm getting tired of people ragging this movie sight unseen.  It's a reinvention.  Everything is supposed to look different!

Here's the facts: Star Trek was an old busted joint. After Enterprise, no one gave a damn about the franchise anymore. J.J. Abrams is trying to freshen things up.  He doesn't really care what the diehard trekkers think.  After all, these are the people who put up with Berman and Braga for years and years.  They'll show up at the theater no matter how much they piss and moan about a reboot.  I'm looking at you onionwriter.

Abrams is trying to appeal to the largest possible audience.  I think he is succeeding.  Interest in this movie is far, far greater than it has been for any Trek movie since possibly TMP back in 1979.  With any luck, this will be more entertaining than that yawn-fest.
To paraphrase Poul Anderson, "Intelligence is a wonderful thing. It provides us with reasons for doing what we were going to do anyway."

still one of the best teaser trailers out there

when i saw this trailer i did not know it was Star Trek untill half way through and you hear the opening notes tot he TV show from the 60s and then you hear Spock faintly saying the "space, the final frontier" lines .

Quarks, an old sci-fi comedy show with Richard Benjamin is out on DVD!!!

Star Trek was just too clean, where as Quarks with bawdy, sexy and bizarre! Realistically, if we venture deep into space, the majority of the people who chose to work in space are more likely be the anti-social types, then the strict adherence to military etiquette role model.

Even though I used to be a big Star Trek weenie, I haven't been following this too closely.

Is the actor who will be playing Spock the same actor who plays Sylar on Heros?  I see strong similarities.

I don't want to start a new thread, but I am a slut for NASA. Apollo was such an exciting time. I know everything about the spacecraft and mission control.

I'm a big fan of NASA TV, especially the news conferences about the shuttle missions.

So do I. If it wasn't for the fact that the Space Shuttle has a height requirement, I would have applied to NASA long ago. Apparently I'm too tall to fit in the Shuttle

I must admit I didn't know that, although it kinda makes sense - they must have a weight requirement also, so if you're a big chap, you may have failed on that too?
