Brief moment in life of the local nobility...
Over the past several generations it had become a tradition that every member of the family with good standing had a sculpture made in their likeness. Ever since lady Nancy had received the nod from the old patriarch, she had been considering what kind of statuary would be the most suitable. Anything too grandiose would certainly be kitschy and seem conceited on her part. In any case her mind was made – she had commisioned a blind sculptor famous for very life like creations. And indeed the result was lovely. The flowing hair, the graceful features and all the like for like shapes made it impossible to not be delightfully cognizant who it represented.
What was remarkable was the buzz surrounding the sculpture. As was customary, lady Nancy had invited everybody – the high society as well as the common folks – to the front lawn of the family villa to an event where she was to present the sculpture to the public. Certainly lady Nancy was a big and admired figure, but it was unprecedented that practically everyone in this and the next town over appeared to want to be there when she was going to unveil her bust!
